So here's the ultimate question for you guys regarding the prospects.

We're changing things up a bit to give people more longevity with their prospects. Basically a 24 or 3 rule. 24 years of age, or 3 full NHL seasons (200 games for skaters/100 games for goalies) whichever comes first. Basically the thought process here is that it wasn't fair for managers to have to protect guys like Skinner, Stamkos, etc. after their first pro season. This is implemented from here on. Now the question is how to do it to affect formerly drafted players best.

This will only apply to players drafted in the prospects draft. If you don't spend a draft pick on them in the prospects draft, their Keeper/FA status starts the next season.

We can take three approaches:
1 - from here on out, period. Everyone else goes under the old rules.
2 - start the clock on the eligibility as of last season. So say Justin Faulk or Adam Larsson will have burned a season off on that number. So basically anyone that hasn't had to be protected as a keeper yet won't have to this season either.
3 - do this going all the way back. So guys like Tavares still have to be protected, but guys like Skinner, Hall, Brayden Schenn, etc. still have some time left before having to be protected.

opening this one up for debate.

Everyone not on the current prospect roster, goes under the old rules. Current players still eligible for the prospect pool goes under the new rules.

Oops, did i just add another option? or was this the intent of Option1

actually that's more in line with option 2, just with a roster caveat in place as well. I would have no problem with that idea either.

personally I'm all for option #2, but I also have a rather biased reason for being so... make that a few of them (Markstrom, Blum, Faulk, Couturier)

I checked out for a bit, did we make a final decision on categories and # of keepers?

categories were going points wise:
goal: 1
assist: 1
gwg: 1
pppts: .25
shpts: .25
shot: .1
fowin: .05

goalies:
win: 3
OT/SO loss: 1
saves: .1
GA: -.75
SO: 2

maybe a bit too much emphasis on saves still, that's also up for debate. I like the look of those stats for skaters though.

keepers: 8. Can only keep 1 goalie, so it's either 7 skaters 1 goalie or 8 skaters. Kindof *****slaps me having both Quick and Miller, but it'll help balance the league a bit more.

When can I make my prospect pick?

Go ahead

Is that point total scheme already plugged into yahoo so we can see where guys rank in the new system? If not could we adjust it in yahoo before we name the keepers? Thanks in advance for doing all this work for the rest of us

Actually looks like Yahoo scrapped the SO/OT L idea, that sucks. But yeah, those are plugged in now.

We're dropping blocked shot and hits then?

And I like option #2 for prospects.

Yep, while great ideas in theory the judging of those stats league-wide is wildly inconsistent. Blocks aren't as bad but it seems like you're credited for a hit in MSG just for looking at someone funny. Hell there was that playoff game between us and the Bruins back in 99 that had something like 120 recorded hits, no joke. Just not a good category to make useful after our experimentation with it.

Thanks Dave, I'm in. Also, I'm noticing that good goalies have similar fantasy points to good skaters. So I think we nerfed goalies sufficiently.

Also: per last year's numbers, centers are *dominant*. As in 500+ faceoffs adds at least 25 fantasy points to a center's value.

I know a value of .05 is ridiculously small, but it really adds up due to the sheer amount of faceoffs. It makes centers slightly overpowered. Not an emergency, but it does make Olli Jokinen and Stephen Weiss very legit fantasy picks in our league. :)

Yes, just look in the "players" tab and rank by last season's numbers.

also, how many keepers do we get? or is this still being debated?

8, max of 1 goalie. You could keep 8 forwards and no D or no goalies. Just can't keep more then one goalie.

Personally I'll be keeping Quick as mine (SHOCK!)

positions are now:
3 C
2 RW
2 LW
1 W
1 F
1 Util
5 D
2 G
2 bench

IR is still 5, cause **** injuries.

Yeah, that definitely needs to be tweaked. Maybe .01 instead?

.025 maybe? I think .01 would take a bit too much away from the value of a guy like Bergeron or Sutter.
