Combination of shallower financial pockets prior to the cap, the intensity in their cities causes most management to act conservative which backfires, and far too much nepotism in appointments through the organisations. So what you end up with is a country club mentality.

Who are some of the most recent big-name free agents to sign with a Canadian team? It seems like the stars choose to avoid the Great White North...which would explain the long drought. It's difficult to build a Cup-contender without a little help from Free Agency.
