(being big)... can mask other issues in a players game when they are playing at lower levels.

It seems like the criticisms are the same throughout, that he seems kind of underwhelming given his speed and size, and that he might not be as skilled as previously mentioned.

So you're saying the things he has accomplished to this point are less impressive/valuable as an NHL prospect due to the fact that he is a big guy?

How is that not treating being big as a negative?

I also love that it's always basically framed as "He gets to beat up on the smaller guys in Junior hockey. That wont be the case in the NHL... Especially now that the NHL is getting smaller and faster."

It’s not a concern on its own. The concern is so far almost every time he’s had to play against players who are just as good or better than him. He’s been a let down.

Which is why concerns are popping up that he “looks” very good and is able to put up big points against weaker competition, but his actual hockey IQ and skills aren’t at a true elite level. It’s not taking away what he’s done in the OHL, because that’s been great. It’s analyzing why he’s been outperformed at every tournament/event where he plays against better hockey players.

It’s not about playing against actual physically weaker players, it’s against players who aren’t NHL level skilled and therefor don’t know how to handle such a big/fast guy. The better hockey players can neutralize him a bit more.

Which is exactly why his size/speed isn’t being used as a negative. It’s exactly what makes him essentially a guarantee to be in the NHL at some capacity and has a very high floor. People are just questioning if he can expand his game a bit more to be a 1st line player.

But apparently to some posters, you aren’t allowed to analyze a player at all and even the notion that he might not become a franchise C is worth being burned at the stake for.

He’s the next Lemieux... you guys happy now?

Anyone comparing Yakupov to Byfield is only stat watching their games age, style, position absolutely everything are nothing alike.

Not one single person is comparing their game. [MOD]

Its been pointed out that even players labeled as “Bure-light” have turned out to not even be NHL caliber and that any prospect can turn out less than expected.

Nobody compared the two. It was literally one post that referenced Yak in a way not to compare him to Byfield and then 2 posts responding to that one posts which again were not about Byfield.

The reference to Byfield was about scouting not about Byfield and Yak.

Like literally, seems you didn't even try to read a post and just reacted off instinct

Next to Lafreniere he's my choice for the top player in this year's draft. Wonder if the team that picks at #2 will share my opinion.
