The defense hasnt been horrid. They are defending well and keeping most teams to the outside but they are all cement heads with the puck though which causing no flow to the breakouts. They have no hands other than Krug and Dougie which is alarming.

The McQuaid-Seids pairing is brutal to watch. Both very bad at moving puck up ice.

Bart to the rescue.

Relax.......it's two freaken games. Lucic had wrist surgery. Siedenberg bad knee. Krejci still hurt. Chemistry still off. They're 1-1. Calm down. Give them s month or so to figure some things out. Look st soderberg, after they changed his position, he took off. Same with Smith last year. Let's see what happens before we roast the ten after two games.

I remember the President trophy winning team having a losing record against the mighty Sabres last year... Loss will happen. Even brutal ones like last night. But as long as you never have long losing streaks and you win 3 out of 5 all year, you end up at the top. Which is where the Bruins will be after 82.

Yeah, my only hope for it really was that Spooner and Fraser are pretty familiar with each other. Overall though, it looks like a peanut butter and motor oil sandwich.

MMMM, just like Dave Lewis use to make.

Not the slightest bit surprised to see Lucic playing poorly.
As soon as a I heard his wrist was in cast for months and he couldn't work out his upper body I had a feeling he was gonna start the season out of shape and looking rough. The wrist is not an excuse for why his legs aren't moving. He's not in game shape right now.

Spooner's catching a ton of **** right now, and some of that is deserved, but you have to at least be true. Watching him on the PP last night, you see he's a different kind of player than pretty much everyone else on the team. You see it in his offensive vision, creativity, and passing ability. He threw a pass from the left side of the net cross ice last night that unfortunately jumped over Krug's stick, and if it hadn't, it would have been a stellar chance for Krug to unload. It reminded me of what the PP used to look like with Savard out there. Not that I'm saying Spooner is on par with Savy. Just that it's been a long time since we've had an offensive play maker like him on this roster. So while some people here are happy to give a veteran like Loui Eriksson 20 games to find himself this season, I'd rather they give a rookie those 20 games to get comfortable playing in the NHL night after night, for the first time in his career.

That's why when everyone healthy I would keep him on the lineup as a low 5 on 5 icetime player + PP specialist.

Like I said before, given his concussion history, I was sweating it. Plus, it sucks to see, but the lack of depth is already a huge issue. But hey, A ****ing plus on building this year's roster, Pete. A ****ing plus indeed. In Chia I trust. :naughty:

Tell me one team that would look good depth wise without their top-2 C?

This summer, if you told me on October 10 that Matt Bartkowski would be playing the role of rescuer, I would have stabbed myself in the eye.

Bright spots: Rask, Bergeron, Smith, Soderberg

Dark Spots: almost everything else

I'm reserving judgement until Krejci is back though. Lucic clearly can't function without him and Spooner shouldn't be playing center. I mean we're missing our #1/#2 center - that's a pretty big loss. Until our core roster is intact in reserving judgement.

But Dougie and Looch need to step it up wow. That was some ugly hockey. If was even hockey I'm not convinced.

I actually thought Z was pretty decent and Smith and Soderberg didn't do jack @#$%. Not a very impressive showing.

Give the wings some credit too though, they just SWARMED every puck, not an unbelievably skilled group (at least relative to what they used to be) but they're quick and worked that system to perfection.

I know he's coming off a wrist injury but Lucic has looked horrendous. I think he only had one hit last night.

Lucic looks like a shadow of his former self. What is the deal?

Lucic ain't looking good for sure. But what is his offensive force? Boards play and battling in front. He needs to play a board game to look good which Spooner-Fraser ain't able to do. Krejci is also a master at this and it's why you'll immediatly see Lucic looking good when he comes back.

Before then, I would try a Lucic-Yeti-Loui line and drop Kelly with the two rookies with Spooner-Kelly-Fraser.

Marchand-Bergeron-Smith is the only thing we can be confident in working almost all of the time. Why change that in any way?

I don't touch that line personnaly. Smith has been good the first two games, Marchand got some great looks and well, Bergy is God.

I would go with this next game:

Lucic-Yeit-Loui
Marchand-Bergy-Smith
Spooner-Kelly-Fraser
Paille-Cunningham-Robins

I don't see him at a rescuer. But having two stay at home D for the 2nd pair isn't working. That McQuaid-Seids pair looks brutal. Almost Dougie bad. Go with this next game:

Chara-Hamilton
Bart-Seids
Krug-McQuaid

Put Spooner on 37's LW and move 63 to the right side, and I'll wager you will see some fireworks from that line.

Because IMO, 63 and 37 can make a lot of RW's look good when they are on their game. Smith IS good, and would provide the 1st line with a skillset they need.

That's why :D

Pretty much my thoughts would like to see this mix match but doubt he try's it .

Looch➖Krech➖Fraser(Smith) IF Louie doesn't work
(Spoon)Marchy➖Bergy➖Spoon(Marchy)
(Fraser)Louie➖Yeti➖Smith(Louie)
Pies➖Kelly➖Robins
Soupy

Brings a lot of balance and say Fraser doesn't workout, we start to shop for replacement.
