This would be a typically dumb Don Sweeney move for quantity over quality. The guy has more wasted roster money then most. Get rid of Moore, Bjork, Miller and we could have almost 6 million more dollars....And we would not miss those three guys not one bit. Hutton would just be more wasted money.....For average to below average talent.....Disgraceful GM.

so Hutton and $2.5m to a "hasnt played in 2 years Kevan Miller" instead of signing a LD that last year was (Chara):

Top 5 in +/-
Top 5 in defensive point shares
3:05 PK/gm
65.4% d-zone start
39 ESGA

Not to mention is your captain, locker room leader, by far most physical player and the perfect mentor for all the young D you're going to be calling up

Also speaks 7 languages, is a financial advisor, sets up the new players with houses, and prevents cliques in the locker room.

If he's your No.6 guy, then he is the definition of "set it and forget it". He will be the least of your problems all year. No glaring weaknesses, can provide something in all three zones.
If he's your No.5 guy... you could do better but he'll fill that space to a mediocre standard and not end up costing you wins.
If he's in your top 4, you have problems.

The Bruins already have that.

Ben Hutton would help the Bruins fulfill expansion requirements on a one year deal. As of now, Moore, Clifton, Miller, etc are short the games needed to qualify for the minimum exposure requirements (40 games this year or 70 over last 2).

Them bringing back Chara for one year fulfills them if he plays 2 games. Them bringing in Hutton for a year fulfills them if he plays 5 games. This way the Bruins aren't forced to expose Gryz if injuries leave them without someone with over 40 games under their belt this shortened season.

Unless the RTP agreement changed those numbers.

Still think the Bruins are hoping a better D shakes free in the trade market.

RTP did change these numbers, they don’t need many games from Moore or Clifton.

Glad to see we're kicking tires on some more LD depth.

Murray and Kulikov were shrewd adds, but they're awfully prone to injury. If they go down, we're stuck with Butcher and a bunch of kids on the left side.

i have mentioned him as a possible depth player, who has experience in a top4 role. in a condensed season it's a good thing to have alternates, who can lessen the work load of the injury prone player types. get them a rest here and there and if you are lucky they might get through the season.

I don't believe the Bruins are interested in Ben Hutton and I think his agent floated this to up the price elsewhere.

I picture Hutton's agent sitting a desk thumbing through a rolodex to call teams he hasn't been rumoured to yet to drum up interest. In the span of the last week this guy has been rumoured like to the whole league. Interesting to think about it, makes you think how little teams are offering because of flat cap.

Yes he is....He passed on Barzal and three other top NHLers.....He signed a 32 year old worn out Backes for 6 MILLION for 5 years....Belesky 5 years 4 million.....John Moore 5 years 2.5 Million....He is one of the dumbest GMs in Bruin history...
No the Bruins have cornered the market on dumb GMs since Milt Schmidt was pushed out ( Espo,Hodge, Stanfield ) and that includes the overrated Harry Sinden......

traded Reilly Smith for Jimmy Hayes
signed Kevan Miller for $2m despite Miller not playing for almost 2 years over broken knee caps
overpaid Coyle paying him $5m a year (and I love Coyle)

I do not see a reason for him. There is 10 dee competing for spots and they are trying to bring in the youth. They have John Moore and Kevan Miller, no need for another bottom pairing guy.
