NEW YORK (April 25, 2012) — The NBC Sports Network will televise 13 games of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Men's World Championship, May 4-20, in Helsinki, Finland, and Stockholm, Sweden, including all Team USA games, a Semifinal matchup and the Gold Medal game. Team USA opens play on Friday, May 4, with a preliminary-round game against France.

All Team USA games will air live on NBC Sports Network, with the exception of its preliminary-round game on May 5, which will be aired later that night on delay. NBC Sports Network will televise at least one Semifinal game and the Gold Medal game (same-day delay), regardless of whether or not Team USA is playing in the contest.

"It's terrific to have the visibility for the Men's World Championship in the United States that comes with the games being televised on NBC Sports Network," said Dave Ogrean, executive director of USA Hockey. "Their coverage last year was outstanding and we look forward to that continuing this year with expanded coverage."

Last year, NBC Sports Network (formerly VERSUS) televised the IIHF Men's World Championship for the first time, and, this year will, air additional coverage, including all seven USA preliminary-round games and all four quarterfinal games live.

NBC Sports Network will also produce pre-game, intermission and post-game updates from the network’s NHL studios in Stamford, Conn., providing viewers with expert analysis of the games before during and after the action.

NBC Sports Network’s 2012 IIHF World Men's Championships schedule, (Please note all times are subject to change):

Being in Europe and NBC Sports having no programming on at that time probably helps, but cool.

Great news. Hopefully plenty of people will tune in for the games here in the US so they continue to air all the games in coming years. International hockey has a very unique appeal and can be a nice counterpoint to the NHL game.

Anyone know if Team Canada games will be on in the US? Will NHLN show it?

LS: All coverage is planned for NBC Sports Network - no coverage is planned for
NHL Network in the United States or Canada - TSN has the rights in Canada.

Well the United States-Canada group game will be televised of course. However
due to coverage of the pre-Kentucky Derby races - its going to be taped delayed
on NBC Sports Network and will be televised - Saturday evening - 7:30 pm ET-
10:00 pm ET. Coverage of the game was moved up due to there being no NHL
playoff game that evening. Programing Note: A repeat of the Cold War On Ice:
Summit Series 72 will be televised after - 10:00 pm ET-12:00 am ET.

According to the press release - NBC Sports Network will televise at least
one Semifinal game and the Gold Medal game (same-day delay), regardless
of whether or not Team USA is playing in the contest.

Last year, NBC Sports Network (formerly VERSUS) televised the IIHF Men's
World Championship for the first time, and, this year will, air additional
coverage, including all seven USA preliminary-round games and all four
quarterfinal games LIVE.

LS: So if there is no United States in the semifinals and Canada makes the
semifinals - expect their game to be the one thats televised. Hopefully both
make it and not play each other so NBC Sports Network decides to televise
both games. All four quarterfinal games will be televised LIVE so if Canada
plays there - it will be televised by the NBC Sports Network. Unfortunately
there are no plans to televise any Canada prelim games that don't have their
opponent being the United States.

For Finnish viewers it's MTV3 and Canal+.

MTV3 showing all Finland's games (commentator will be mostly Saukkonen :help:) and Canal+ showing all the games, including Finland's games in HD and with Mertaranta as a commentator and no commercials.

Canal+ has special WHC 24/7 channel with WHC games and specials around the clock.

Actually it's 50-50 Saukkonen and Juha Taivainen on the free channels... but the reaction is adequate, since it's still about 100 percent too much of Saukkonen.

Just because of Saukkonen I'm forced to buy Canal+ for 3 months. 39,90 eur deal for 3 months plus you get NBA, movies and porn.

I was thinking of buying the Katsomo package for 28€, you get all the games but I have a feeling the non-Finland games that I might want to watch will be available via free streams and in better quality than Katsomo. Plus there's the repulsive thought of giving money to MTV3...

Oh yeah, you do know there's free porn on the internet? :D

I did the same deal and become "hometeams golden helmet" as I got so much points of getting canal+ in eyes of my gf, thought I think I lost the points when she noticed the porn there is.

Full HD, big screen, maybe even 3D.. Internet wont beat that

Its worth it. It would be a dream package actually for soccer fan.. but I dont care at all so I just use movie channels except when the World Championships come.

I bought the 39.90 (13,30 per month) Canal+ deal. Card should arrive in one day. Plus I canceled it to end after 3 months. Though I'll have to drop the card to some DNA shop.

NBA playoffs is big plus and the movies...porn is just a bonus. Soccer I don't mind that much but I might check some interesting Premier League games too. Yeah and Eastbound & Down 3rd season starts there in 2 days :handclap:

And no Saukkonen thank god!

Every station around the world broadcasting the event can be seen from the link:

...............................................................................................................

2012 IIHF World Championship, television distribution for the event includes agreements for over 100 countries and territories.

Most of these broadcasters will provide live or near-live transmissions, depending on the time zones and broadcaster schedules. In addition, there is a high level of news access interest.

But couldn't you have got it cheaper? i only bought the sport package which made it cost like 24-25€/month, also going to cancel after that month.

Very good though that there is HD ability, don't mind wasting some for a good quality picture.

You know, I don't which is sadder... gnashing your teeth while trying to listen to Saukkonen, or paying for these premium packages, because that means their plan works exactly as it should.

No cheap deals...sport is 6 months deal. You sure you can cancel yours after 1 month? I don't mind that there is other stuff like movies and NBA...it's imo still cheap deal when you compare it to 28 eur Katsomo service that only covers the Worlds games.

That's true and I thought about this quite a along time. But what can you do...not interested about searching decent streams that mostly are with crappy quality.
