I like this switch

Coatsey was showing up for games too drunk to be coherent. There were so many times he'd start rambling about something before he even knows what he wants to say

I hope this doesn't prevent Therien from speaking his mind. I love the radio broadcasts.

"What do you think of that period, Chris?"

"I think it sucked."

Or calling Tim Saunders a "dumb ass" not once but twice during the Montreal playoff series. Ranks right up there with the most unintended comic relief statements ever.

The number of times Bundy and Saunders have insinuated things about alcohol, pornography, and masturbating on a live broadcast is amazing. And they can role with it to the point where Saunders can't breathe he's laughing so hard.

Saunders has the ability of self-deprecation.

Bundy told a story that when he takes his kids Trick-or-Treating, if he sees one of his neighbors, who are uninterested in answering the door, attach a "Take One" note to a candy bowl, then "I take two."

The radio with Karl Dykhuis however may be his best.

Radio broadcast will suck possibly haha. Great for the television crew so long as Therien is the same as he was on radio (meaning, not kept under wraps).

Going to miss the Saunders & Bundy radio tandem. They were great together, like Franzke and LA.

I'd put money that Bundy is going to be neutered from now on. Should be a nice change from Coatesy, though.

They should have swapped Jackson with Saunders as well. Saunders, Bundy, & Jonesy would be a better crew than what we currently have.

Bundy will be neutered but I don't think he'll go full homer like Jackson, Coatsey, & Clement. I see him more like Jonesy.

can I get a short recap of the Dykhuis story?

"Dumb ass": That was just something I heard during one of the Montreal playoffs series. Saunders did a radio promo for a car dealership, mentioned the strong customer service and issued a recent example when he inadvertently killed the electrical unit of his auto. When the team return from Montreal, he had a dead car. Therien interrupted and called him a "dumb ass" to which Saunders said "I didn't tell you?..." and then when he attempted to conclude the story/promo, Therien said "yeah, dumb ass!"

Dykhuis: The way I interpreted the story was they lived in the same apartment complex and one day bought similar stereo systems. Therien would hide his remote when visiting Dykhuis's apartment and control the radio settings while convincing Dykhuis the radio or apartment was haunted. Dykhuis was baffled as to how the channels and volume could change with no one within arms reach of the radio and his remote in hand. That was at least how I understood the story.

Surprised this rumor didn't get posted here when Coatsey got moved to radio...

This upcoming Flyers season will be a bit different from the last few as Steve Coates and Chris Therien will be switching roles and wives.

Coates will take over for Therien on the radio side of things and “Bundy,†as Therien has been referred to as because he kills women in the offseason, will join the television broadcast.

The news was a bit of a surprise to most, but the alleged reason is because Coates was involved in a horrific motorcycle accident back in June. The accident permanently damaged Coates’ face and Jim Jackson is worried it will scare children away from the broadcast.

With no insult intended, Dude... Sorry but I found the Phalse article tasteless with the "Down Syndrome" remark... I suppose that should have just ignored the link and entire 'quote' when I read the false explanation for the 'Bundy' nickname... curiosity won out though. Funny or not funny, that line alone made it tasteless in this age of awareness of being political correct and the feelings of others.

I'm glad someone commented on it. There was nothing funny about that article and it was extremely distasteful.

Somebody had told me about the rumored Coatsey accident and why he went to radio.....he said to google it and saw that "story." I don't know if he was trying to pull one over on me or thought it was true but all I found was that reference. Didn't consider the offense it might cause...commented mainly that I was surprised such a crazy rumor wasn't brought up. Not sure where it originated anyway...the motorcycle accident.

I just thought the Down Syndrome part was unnecessary... that omitted and I would have just moved on without comment. While it wasn't really funny it is their right to joke like that -- I really do not have a real short fuse on tastefulness battling -- specific targets such as Coatsey is taken for what's it worth and is what it is... general comments on specific things that touch many people's families I believe is best left out, especially when it doesn't really add to the joke.

I don't mean to make too much out of this... and I really do appreciate your understanding.

Just came back from Early Bird STH Q&A with Hexy and Homer... Coatsey moderated... I shook my head after just posting that post... I did detect a slight limp... and found myself looking at his face for scars... I waited for someone to ask about the motorcycle accident. SMH

J/K haha... but he was there and did have a slight limp that I might not have noticed otherwise.

Yeah my friend said the rumor was he had a big scar on his face from the accident.....but sounds like maybe it's a half truth. Maybe he did get in an accident and hence the limp but no disfigurement apart from his Rudolph nose...
