The 4th line so far this year is exactly what you want from your 4th line. They can play a checking role against skilled lines and outwork them and generate chances of their own. takes a lot of heat off Plekanec.

Why did you have to bump this thread and remind us this 4th liner was extended for THREE years and will likely feature in the top6?

He signed a 2 year contract, and it ends next season
But yea sure keep lying so you can always bash the management

When was he extended for three years..?

I was almost certain he got a 3 year extension?

Oh shi-- that was Byron. Flynn is here until the end of next season (potential 3 year extension notwithstanding).

Honest mistake. And I don't need to lie to mock this horrible, pathetic, contemptful management.

You might also be thinking about Torrey Mitchell, who was also signed to a 3 year contract (AKA "The Grinder Package").

Yeah I was all over it.

Sorry to the Flynn fan(s?) here, honest mistake.

Only Mitchell and Byron were extended for three years. Flynn was signed to a mere two year deal.

Fine with Mitchell and Byron for 3 years but Flynn has to go. I'd take Lessio over him any day of the week.

Really don't get the hate for Byron's contract. Dude puts up close to Weise stats for peanuts and is one of the best short handed guys around. The Byron contract is the least of our worries.

Flynn is a solid and versatile 4th liner. Nothing more or less. He's a depth guy that can take a regular shift. Don't really see the hate he gets being motivated at all.

Same as the other guy who gets the hate, he ends up being used more instead of less

13th forward my ass, he'll end up in the Top 9 and in the shootout

At 9:59 he quite literally had the lowest average even strength ice time of any forward on the team who played more than 5 games, except for Mike Brown. He's a part time 4th liner and his cap hit is $25,000 more than that of Jacob de la Rose. When everyone is healthy he's a healthy scratch who won't have his development ruined by sitting in the press box for long periods of time. He can kill penalties. He's very fast. He was our best faceoff guy this past season. He was 1-for-2 in the shootout, good for the best shootout percentage on the team. If he doesn't make the team this coming season he'll be buried in the minors and not use up any cap space at all.

Brian Flynn is the least of our problems.

But go ahead, continue to rant about how MB should be fired because he acquired this guy for a 5th round pick.

This.

The problem is that we have too many 4th line depth guys.

I'm ok with Mitchell, Flynn and Byron on the 4th.

But then it could be Mitchell, Byron, Danault or Mitchell, Byron, Lessio or Mitchell, Flynn, Danault or or or... and they have Matteau in the mix, JDLR as well, maybe Brown. Just too many who can only really play on the 4th.

He still hates the Byron signing :D

Flynn is a fine 13th 4t line player who could be buried without anything on the cap, who cares?
His best trait is that he can be buried.

Think about it.

He's not a hitter. Not a fast skater. Not a fighter. Not PK specialist. Not a faceoff specialist. Not a savvy veteran.

He's a warm body.

And you wonder why some fans with standards are sick of seeing these broads in our top6?

Versatile yeah. Solid no.

A solid 4th liner works hard, is good at forecheck and good a winning puck battle along the board. He is good at wearing down the opponent when he is on the ice. When he jumps on the ice the other team should think "not this ***** ****** son of a **** again".

Flynn is versatile. But he's not really good. Not skilled enough to be a 3rd liner and he doesn't have the attributes to be a good 4th liner.

Flynn isn't a detriment to the team. He can play on the fourth line and do alright.

He is not helping either. 4th line is more important than some here think. A good 4th line can give you momentum. The line wont score but if the line spend 40 seconds in the opponent territory hitting everything and wearing down the other team with hard work it can gives a momentum boost for the next line.

I really don't see that in Flynn. He has the speed and he's not that small but he is tiny and he doesn't have that "killer instinct" required to be an effective 4th liner. He's meh at best. We can do better than him there's absolutely no doubt in my mind.

He's still not too old to change and progress so we will see what he will do at the camp but i'm not holding my breath. Maybe he decided to add 10-15 pounds and finally understood that he is not a skilled player. But again i'm not holding my breath.
