Don't look at it that way. DRW wanted to sign him at 3.5 AAV, so they don't think he is hot garbage. They wanted to keep him. Smith just wanted more. DRW also has cap issues, so they were kind of cornered.

I doubt DRW knew of the G injury and/or used it to their benefit.

We keep overpaying so badly, if that's true.

EDIT: I'm not saying that's what we should have or even could have gotten for Yandle's rights. I'm saying we got a 4th and a 6th for the rights to a PMD.

I'm saying we paid a pair of picks for 20+ games of a 28 year old bottom-pairing d-man, one of which is a second, and we probably won't have the cap space to re-sign him unless there's another move. We get a little extra snarl and not much offense, which is a sore need on this team and has been for a while.

We only paid a 4th for Holden.

To me, a 2nd is over-payment, never mind a second pick with it.

He's better than Holden, Staal, Girardi, and possibly Klein, all while playing his off side. Hopefully 2nd and another conditional if he re-signs is all it is.
