Wow, really? That would put him like top 12 in the league amongst defensemen. That would be silly, IMO.

That's tied with Vis and Kronwall for 16.

So we use Viz money to lock up Manchuk, perfect.

Amen on that...and since we almost ALWAYS have to overpay to get quality players to re-sign here, it's most certainly going to take about 30 million over 5 years to get it done.

Boychuk > All of the following in no particular order: AMac, Orpik, Niskanen, Streit

If that's what the current market calls for then that's what we do (especially if he fits). A 6 x 5 on a guy like him used to be farfetched but is actually a sound investment in today's league.

Trade is a win for us regardless.

If he doesn't want to resign, ship him at the deadline and get some value back and then call up Reinhart or Pulock.

We win regardless, and I am looking forward to this year with our revamped D core.

He's SUBSTANTIALLY better than AMac, Orpik, and Streit. As in, lightyears better.

I'm not prepared to commit to him being better than Niskanen, but that could be true.

I also think he's superior to Markov and Phaneuf.

EDIT: And Dan Girardi too, who sucks. (And who would be on the third pairing, if at all; on our blueline...)

Every successful/cup winning team has important veteran rocks like Boychuk....Hes going to do wonders for our team on and off the ice..

If we can lock him up that would be tremendous.

Orpik is not as good as Boychuk and is 4 years older and he was signed for 5 years @ 5.5

If we can get Boychuk for something similar maybe a bit more, we should be very happy.

Absolutely...and seeing how he can essentially simply replace Viz with regard to cap hit, I can't see the wrong in it.

...I think if we have a good season, make the playoffs along with the promise of a new building next year, we can get him to resign here.

Don't forget that Yashin's cap hit finally comes off the books next season. That's a little more than $2M in free space.

Unlike the past few years, the goal of trading for a player like this is to build a playoff team, not acquire trade deadline assets. Boychuk will not be traded if this team is in contention come March. I don't think Boychuk is traded because I expect this team to be playing well into April this season.

I hate you all, but not literally. Hate your team for taking our Boychuk. Hurts to see him in a different uniform just days after planning on seeing him lay midgets out left and right. You'll love his open ice and hip checks. Tough mother****er, goes down the tunnel with crazy injuries and plays his next shift. Awesome lockerroom presence, clutch as hell in pressure. One of the hardest slapshots in the NHL and when given time and space to aim, it goes in, or cripples an opponent.

Luckily for us some of the cheapest Bruins tickets are the weeknight games we always seem to have, so I can go see him again for just ~ $60-80!

Good luck to you guys this year, I've kind of liked NYI over the last few years. I'll be watching a lot more of your games now of course. While double ******* vodka sprites in my left hand and beer in my right.

Thanks for ellaborating, I didn't emphasize the >

Just wanted to throw a couple names out there who recently signed 5 year deals. When JB says anything can happen, that's what he means. Although were all a bit jaded after having Vanek and Boyle pretty much slap us in the face, I don't think this will be the same situation.

Seems hes going to embrace his role as a mentor and leader. Hard to see him going elsewhere if we have a strong postseason and moving to a brand new arena where him and the other Johnny can be the faces of the franchise.

If he plays like we expect, 6M per would be fine. Wisniewski and Orpik get 5.5. Boychuk is getting at least 5.75 on the open market. 250K overpayment seems well worth it but time will tell.

Salary cap will also go up next year by as much as 10 million I think?

We're good..we have lots of room and the rest we waive, trade or bury.

yea, so lets let another team pay him 6mm, so we can have tj brennan or a young dman who isnt ready yet play 15 min a game for us

exactly...

not all great players but we could have a defense of

Striet-Boychuk
Leddy-Hamonic
de Hann-Wizniewski

if we were willing to spend....obviously no true #1 but also no Straits Carkners and Donovans

Heh. Ok.

Do we even know what he's looking for? $6m seems completely drawn from the air and now people have grabbed onto it as though it now means something. Niskanen was highly sought after (he can move the puck) and didn't get $6m. That's all I'm saying.

If it truly takes significant overpayment to secure his services, then so be it. But, it's overpayment nonetheless. Also, I'd wait a while and see how he does on the Island for a couple months before I back the truckload of cash up to his doorstep. It's a long way from a defensive juggernaut like the B's to the Capuano circus of failure.

If he does well this year, he will at least command 6 mill. It tells teams that he can play and create chemistry quickly and not just be a product of a good team.
