As much as I love Clifford's game, he has 10 pts in 59 games, and a concussion history. Bouma has 25 pts in 60 games, and will likely finish the year with more than half the amount of points Cliffy has in his whole career. He brings more to the table than Clifford does, and doesn't goon it up. Sure, Bouma may not be whom you'd consider top-six, but is more than serviceable to fill in in case of injury, or just to shake things up. If Clifford is gonna get term AND (relative) $'s, I'd give Boums at least 1.75 in year, and I'm confident he deserves at least $2M in each of the final two years of a 3-year contract.

He's grown to be one of my favorites on the team. An absolute heart and soul player that every team covets and that is crucial to win cups. I like the 2.5 over 4 for our future assistant captain

I love Bouma but no he is not an effective top six player.

The point of Bouma on the first line with Backlund and Jones is to pair against the first tines of the other teams. There is no other line combination on the Flames that can do it better than they can.

I hate referring to them as a 1st or even 2nd line, which is why I call them the shutdown line

But I think Glencross could very much be as effective on the shutdown line, which is apart of him thinking he is being misused IMO. But going forward past the deadline and Glencross likely being gone, I can't disagree about no one being better for that role than Bouma.

Although if they are willing to play Colborne at centre I would like to experiment with Backlund on LW and Stajan at centre on a shutdown line.

Probably around 2.5mil per year for 3 or 4 years. If/When Glencross gets traded I hope he is the new assistant captain.

I've always wondered about that possibility going forward. I'd reverse it though. Backlund between Bouma and Stajan. Makes Stajan less redundant on the ice if he can play wing and you get to keep a quality vet around.

I'm starting to be on board for a 2m kind of deal. 2m x 4 years would be great.

This the exact deal I imagine we get him with.
He's an ideal bottom 6'er, defensive specialist, PKer that can chip in for 10 or so goals a season. That being said, after that 4 year period, if he continues his play this way, he will receive some mighty fine offers across the league.

This will allow Calgary to develop their next Bouma :)
