I was trying to use Nystrom as a comparable, but the guy never got paid/offered what he was worth here, and I don't think Bouma is quite yet worth what Nystrom currently makes. I'll say 3 years, $5M: $1.5, $1.5, and $2. By then, he'll get his raise one way or the other if he's earned it.

Edit: On second thought, I change my mind. Lol Bouma looks to be a more consistent point produce than Nystrom ever was during his time here, even if the intangibles are similar. If Kyle Clifford is worth an average salary of 1.8, Boums has to be close to that. I'll say 3 years, $6.5M: $1.75, $2.25, $2.5

Ideally around 1.25-1.5 for 2-3 years. I don't think anyone who butters their bread on the 4th line should make more than 1.5 unless you've got a defensive specialist centre who's going to run your 1st PK unit.

The thing about Bouma though, is that he's proven effective in both top and bottom six roles. Guy can skate, hit, block shots, and basically does anything asked of him and more. Produces in the scoresheet and chips in with some timely effin' goals. To determine the value of his next contract, you need a comparable, and I look at guys like Clifford and Nystrom who'll be making $1.8M and $3M respectively in coming years, and you have to believe Bouma brings as much to the table as either of those two, especially with his contribution to the Flames surprise success this year. I'll stick to the edit in my above post; $1.75M in year one, and anything north of 2 after that, not exceeding 3 years.

I'd give up a three year term, slightly higher money per year the shorter it is.

1 year, $2 million
2 years, $1.75 per
3 Years, $1.5 per.

Give him a chance for a bit more cash with risk of a bad year hurting his value, or a longer term security at a bit less cash. Would also be open to some performance bonuses added onto his contract

Nystrom has been overpaid ever since leaving Calgary, so I wouldn't use him as a comparable, but Clifford is a decent one. I still think 1.5 per would be fair to Bouma and the team, because I don't think he should be expected to move any higher than the third line. What he's been doing this season is just because the Flames are seriously lacking in high end depth.

Sure, if it came down to brass tacks, I wouldn't mind him getting 1.6 or 1.7 million if that was a sticking point, but I still disagree with the idea of his cap hit approaching or passing 2 million.

Someone should make a gif of Bouma shot blocking money bags instead of pucks. And shooting money bags in the net. He's going to rolling around in dough.
