Most Sabres fans claim Botterill's hands were tied with the Pegulas interfering with his work.

I'm not sure Botts is the answer but at least he's far younger and will be able to think more rationally. Memes aside, I honestly believe GMJR's getting sloppier with his work. He gets it in his head that he's gonna pull a trigger and execute his plan, and then is willing to make unreasonable sacrifices to get it done quickly. He used to be more patient. Remember how long it took him to get Sheahan as 3C at 2 mil for scraps? Months. It's like he just wants to finish his job for the day now.

What was the huge rush with Hornqvist? The season doesn't start til January. It's not like they made cap room to try and get a free agent when the window opens soon. Did he truly make the rounds and see if he couldn't get a better return, or at least a cap dump?

What about the 15th overall pick? That was a huge asset. Was bringing Kapanen and sacrificing Hallander really the best he could do with that trade chip?

I have the impression that Rutherford isn't doing his due diligence and contacting enough GM's. Why do we always seem to trade with the same teams? It's like he's taking the easy way out and just contacting who he's closer with, to try and get quick fixes. It happened at the trade deadline too. Buffalo. A rushed deal that made no sense whatsoever. Just change for the sake of change, because people expect him to be active and he's maintaining his reputation.

He's legitimately getting worse. More and more reckless. He doesn't fear the axe because he's on retirement's doorstep. Nothing to lose.

Per the title.

GMJR made some great moves. Got us to a level where the players could compete and win - and they did. From that point on...well, we're here in large part due to his personnel decisions and their inability to play the style this coach demands. You could argue our roster isn't even built for any particular style right now - which after two straight embarrassing seasons you'd think we'd have some semblance of. Hell - with two of the best to ever lace them up entering the back 9 of their careers you'd think we'd have a semblance of competitiveness and drive. Since Botterill left for the Sabres, you could argue just about every move has been negligent in some way. It's time for Jim Rutherford to go. He clearly has no vision for success - and whatever vision he has is bordering on insanity. His focus is misplaced and his trust misguided. Everyone has warts - but his are beaming right now with no signs of slowing - while already paired with multiple seasons of failures. Enough is enough - the reins are overdue for turnover.
Rutherford hasn't made any trades on his own informing ownwership Burkle and Lemieux what he was planning to do before the trade is something he'd need to do.
Rutherford has their approval and will likely remain general manager until his contract expires.
