Post-Game Talk: Boston 2 - Devils 1 (SO)

i saw someone earlier say Salvador isn't playing well and actually hinted at Larsson taking his spot. i don't feel like going back to find and quote, but any one who agrees with this needs to watch the game closer.

He may not be flashy or deep in on the rush ever. but any time i got that gut feeling we were about to get scored on in any of these first few games (i know you all know that feel) it seemed Salvador would end up with the puck some how and defuse the situation.

countless rebounds and fights behind the net where you couldn't even tell where the puck was it seemed he was always the one to save the day. but he did it so simply and confidently that it went unnoticed almost every time.

i always thought it was a locker room reason he was chosen to have the C but after actually paying closer attention to him in the defensive zone i can see it was way more then that.

i know the majority out there doesn't think hes bad at all and see him as the amazing defensive player he is, but i know some people bashed him in last nights game even though he saved NJs ass more times then i could keep up with.

if someone could clarify , other then lack of offense, why salvador could be considered on the **** list, please enlighten me.

our PP is looking good too. Lots of movement at the point. Not a lot of sideboard waiting. Thats good. Keeps the passing and shooting lanes open. Also going to allow for a lot more deflection goals than the devils are usually good for.

not a single member of our D is noticable in a good way, at least to fans. Thats what makes it so underrated. I like it.

haha yea i guess im ok with that, its only downfall is if we ever need to trade one of them lou would have to use the "listen, you don't understand, hes actually really good, trust me" approach.

It's also scary hearing how apparently many people on twitter think Fayne sucks

the only one i've seen screw up on a regular basis is Zid. i wouldnt say hes bad, i dont know if its because hes got the "offensive D" excuse, or im giving him the "i just want him to be good" reasoning.

but if one stood out over the rest with making silly mistakes i would say it was him.

What I really took notice of last night was how Salvador finished out the periods. He was out for the final shifts and took ZERO chance at letting up. He finished each shift as if it were to win the cup and hustled to even the most basic dump in. That is leadership by example and what I want to see carry through to every guy on this team, or at the very least, not give way to complacency. Mistakes may happen as a matter of execution but when your mental state is such as his was - that builds wins.

So to your point, yeah Sal was being a warrior beyond the locker room. But of course, I've always been a big fan of his.

Any one looking to pick up someone on our D would be watching that detail, not looking on NHL.com's quiz section

I agree with everything you have said truflesh. Every time Zid has been getting the puck, I don't expect much. I think Salvador has been playing fantastic. I feel like Scotty Stevens is really breathing down his neck during practices. Hopefully we can play strong against the Isles Thurs. We can use this day off to work on where we are lacking.

It will click eventually. It's clear that Shaw has promoted the idea of everyone looking to shoot. It's no longer a PP where they all stand around and load up Kovy's shot, and the other team always knows it's coming. Now everybody is willing to pull the trigger, and that makes it more dangerous.

I loved that in Yahoo's notes for Adam Larsson they said something like:

"Larsson will get into the action soon, probably at the expense of Mark Fayne".

Uhh, unless we deal him, I don't think our top pairing Dman will be the one to sit.

If that's how he's viewed its better for us because it shows how little he is payed attention to and we know how solid he really is

Hey, I've been one of the only people saying that Clarkson is a legit 25 goal scorer, even before he got his current contract. I have a lot of faith in him and his... unpredictable nature. But he's no 40 goal scorer.

I told a Ranger fan I know that he could CONTEND for the #6 D-man role on team USA. There's a pretty wide open race for the bottom 2 guys. Lots of names, no one really stands out above anyone else. I got laughed at.

No one really appreciates how good of a player he is. I think it's a combination of a bunch of factors:

1. Not a flashy player in the slightest
2. NJ Devil
3. NCAA player
4. 6th? round draft pick
5. Came out of no where
6. Incredibly dull name. Sounds like the lame kid in high school that everyone knew but no one cared to talk to.

Seriously. That makes him so much more attractive for a 6th defenseman spot, unless all the guys ahead of him are RHs already. It actually wouldn't shock me at all if Greene and Fayne both made the roster. The United States' defensive lineup is a bit scraggly.

7. The one time most casual fans ever did hear of him is when he shanked a wide-open shot in the first two games of the Finals. And he was subpar that whole series because of his wrist issues.

I can't see both making the team.

I figure Suter and both Johnsons are practically locks. Leaves the last 3 spots to McDonagh, Yandle, Carle, Carlson, Orpik, Fayne, Greene, Fowler, Leddy, Shattenkirk, Gardiner, Blum, and maybe some more I'm forgeting.

If I had to pick 3 right now, I'd say Shattenkirk, McDonagh, and Yandle (not sure how many of those 6 guys I named are RHD off the top of my head) but Fayne really isn't far off the pace.

Edit: Shattenkirk, Erik Johnson, Fayne, and Blum are the only righties of that entire bunch.

1 and 2 go hand-in-hand for this Franchise with Kovy being the exception to this rule.

I thought the defense played poorly for the 2nd game in a row.

Boston should have scored at least 4 goals yesterday, and maybe as many as 6 if they could have hit the broad side of a barn.
