I don't understand why, now, people are thinking the deal won't get done. What has changed in the past 48 hours that would lead you to believe a deal won't get done? I'm not confident it will, but I'm not confident it won't.

It's been a game of chicken since Thursday. It's still a game of chicken with ~24 hours to go. Why is it now not going to happen?

From the last thread:

We can also dump Scuderi somewhere else. Can't get someone else to retain kessels salary. If it's a question of dumping Scuderi to the leafs or having the leafs retain $2 million of Kessel's salary, you take Leafs retaining $2 million every time.

Yeah, I agree with this. Secondly, adding Kessel forces the front office to do something about the top 6, whether or not they want to, which HAS to happen for us to improve.

I really don't see the downside about taking Kessel with salary retained over making the Leafs take salary dumps, unless there's some actual interest in Kunitz or whoever for some weird reason.

Either way, I'd be surprised for one of Oshie or Kessel to not be a Penguin by July 5th (just arbitrarily throwing a date out there). One of the 2 is almost a guarantee to happen.

Yup, nothing really has changed. People are just impatient/paying more attention to weird internet rumors than any sort of critical thinking on the subject.

The only reason I'd rather dump players (namely Scuderi and Kunitz) to the Leafs for Kessel is that they'd still be roadblocks here to the players who should be playing and Kessel at $6 million would likely cost us Maatta to bring in.

And I'm looking forward to your responses  It's nice to see you around these parts again.

Thanks, holmes! Academic life is a tough mistress. I'm just lucky I'm teaching in the evening for summer semester, so while my students are watching weird Slovak films about historical bandits, I'm being a snarky ******* on the internet in English.

As long as we don't spend anything of value on Sharp and get one of Kessel or Oshie for a reasonable price, we should do well. We have enough pieces to make 2 moves possibly. Should be an interesting day to say the least.

For me, it's recent history. With each passing minute that we don't land Phil Kessel, pessimism kicks in based on what has transpired the last six years.

Thank the sweet baby jesus if this is true.

Realistically speaking, Kessel probably won't happen. At the same time, it has been that way the entire time and nothing in the last day has changed that.

I kinda want the title to be "Kessel Sprong me a huge Beauner", but I don't think that would fly
