I'd say Barbashev plays a tenacious game, but is more of a playmaker than a destroyer. I believe Musil and Toropchenko will be our rampage crew before too long. Foley is another one, though his recent concussions might calm him down a bit.

I think concussions are what changed Sobotka’s game too. Once he got paid, he decided it wasn’t worth it to play that type of game any more. Probably pretty smart on his part.

I think you’ll be disappointed if you are expecting Toropchenko to play some heavy, physical game.

He's definitely not, say, Backes, but from what I've seen, he's physically involved a lot. Goes hard to the net and into corners. "Tenacious" was the word that was used and that seems fair.

Barbashev physical game is more like Perron type of then what Sobotka was 2-3 years ago.

But If Fabbri and Jaskin is his linemates they can bring enough physical game in that like and Barbashev can put full efford on 3rd man low and create/setup plays.

“Tenacious” is better, but Toropchenko is much more inclined to play the stick than pin people against the board. His strength lies in how he can cut the distance between him and the puck handler in few strides. It’s good for catching players off-guard, meaning he doesn’t need to hit as often as people may like.

I haven't watched much of Toropchenko, but I have seen him lay some good hits as a result of his tenacity and speed. I guess I agree that he is more of an actual hockey player than a Reeves type, which is why I compare him more to Sobotka.

I wonder if Barbashev has a fire under him this year to prove something or if he's just never going to be much of anything.
From the horse's mouth:

Barbashev is an interesting player, still has potential to be a solid middle sizer IMO. Hard to get a read on him due to inconsistency, but when he is physically engaged in the game and hustling he can be very effective. Barbashev - Thomas - Fabbri would be a really fun 4th line to watch!

There's just so many wild cards. We all talk about how Fabbri could make this team go from really good to flat out dangerous, but honestly guys like Kyrou, Barbashev and Sanford could too if any of them live up to their potential and contribute this season. I'm really excited to see which young guys win the battle for a roster spot there.

Agreed. I’m high on kyrou and honestly think he could have a higher ceiling than even a healthy Fabbri. Still, they are different players. We will see. It’s nice to have elite talent.

Does Kyrou have to make the team to play in nhl this year? Or can he start in ahl and be called up at anytime? I'm not sure about that kinda stuff. Fabbri -Thomas-Kyrou could be insane as a third line, and I really want to see it.

Sundqvist is interesting to me because his stats show that he's been a pretty good scorer everywhere but the NHL, yet he's been dubbed a PK specialist 4th liner only. I never really thought he was that good on the PK, but then I never thought he was that good at anything in the NHL with his slow foot speed. It would be nice to see him get a lot of games in a top role in San Antonio and see how he grows as a player. He could end up as a decent 3C down the road.

Wondering what team I will see tomorrow in Dallas?? I love preseason games because you never know what you will see!!!
Enjoy yourself tomorrow. It feels a little like a football game, with the cheerleaders and the crowd's energy. But I found myself really enjoying the Dallas fans.

I saw a woman come to the game 90 minutes early to honor Ott, who had visited her school and brightened the day of a sick girl. He was her favorite player in the NHL (the teacher) now, even when visiting with the Blues. Lots of Stars fans love that guy.

I sat next to a mother and her mentally disabled son for one game. It was a game where Tarasenko got a hat trick, including the game-winner in OT. While I enjoyed myself, I tried to keep it contained because this kid was a hardcore Stars fan. He was pretty bummed out when they lost. But everyone I sat around was friendly and courteous. I think its just Texas culture, but its nice to see it extend to the hockey arena.

Players like that exist though, great at every level except the pros, in baseball we call them AAAA players and in hockey we call them Ty Ratti lol

Sounds like Lehtera :sarcasm:

I don't know if you saw his snipe on Lundqvist last year but it was an ELITE level shot

Hank legitimately looked like an A level beer league goalie struggling to adjust his timing when he fills in for a C level game.
