Wasn't he like a big bust prior to this year?

he was never really a bust, people only say that because he was picked before Ehlers and Nylander, most agreed he wouldn't live up to his draft pedigree, however he has been good this year. Had he been taken 8-11 like many expected, they wouldn't be talking about it at all.

Manning causes another goal, as expected.

On a different note, how many times does Gus jump up on the play, only to not get a shot off, and causes an odd man break the other way? No defensive awareness whatsoever.

his hands were bad, lowish IQ, and his skating was rough...the kid worked really hard on a lot of his game and has become a solid player...good for him, like to see kids work their asses off and not fold like he has.

Pretty sure nucks took Virtanen over Nylander iirc because size

Yea... Gradin (our SWE scout who picked out Pettersson and recommended Pastrnak over Jared McCann) wanted Nylander but Benning thought he was #small so we end up with Vancouver born Virtanen, he was expected to go 8-11 so it wasn't too big of a reach but there was a lot of talent left on the table for sure.

So where is the talent of D-Cat and Schmaltz (he negatively "produced alas)?

Absent for many games now.

His skating was his best attribute at the draft, he can skate like the wind. His biggest detractor was hockey IQ, he's still not a genius out there but he skates fast and he can absolutely hammer the puck, he's been better this year for sure.

I always heard from other Nucks posters that his skating stride was bad, his stamina was bad, and needed to work on his skating...high end speed but awkward is what I always remember..he had other issues that was stated, but he has figured things out which is obvious to see

I know the expectation of scoring is very very low but on that last draw to end the period you absolutely have to have Toews take the draw and put Cat at the top of the circle for a quick wrister...Putting in Johnson to win a draw back to the point to then pass over to Seabrook for a one timer in 3 seconds is just atrocious...

Luke Johnson is a hard worker and a good soldier.. but he should be nowhere near the top 9. 4th liner at best.

“Awkward stride” is the observation I hate the most.

If you guys had Pasta, Nylander, Petterson, Boeser and Horvat....absolutely unreal talent up front...

wasn't the word that Virtanen wasn't treating hockey in a professional manner either...had talent but was just a mess, hometown team as well iirc so maybe some added pressure, what we've seen tonight is a guy that looks like a former top 10 pick for sure

csn broadcast > wgn...intermissions are the worst on the latter, at least there is discussion about the game on csn
