A buyout of Darling costs $7.9M over 6 years. Retaining 50% costs $5.9M over 3 years.

I can't see the Canes swallowing 50% on Darling and saving just $2.0M (over a buyout) just to get a lesser return on Faulk. If they are retaining 50%, then they should move Faulk at full value as part of that or they might as well just buy out Darling and trade Faulk separately.

Well we're pretty much in agreement. They have the ability to spend a bit, and won't want full price Darling.

But if they add 8 million onto the cap in a player or two, they would end up right at the 78 million mark. That's where the cap is expected to be (or as high as 82), and they would still need to re-sign Hinostroza and Duclair.

So 8 million in, with nothing out, is pretty much impossible.

Neither Hinostroza or duclair is due a big raise “aka anything north of 2 mil per” and almost assuredly they are moving anisimov ideally for a pick that clears another 4.5 mill.

That’s why Hossa can just held onto as they probably don’t go over the ceiling this year unless they do something extremely bold like move heaven and earth to get Tavares and a top pair dman and to do that they probably end up moving schmaltz, 8 and one of Forsling/jokiharju.
