Good management resume for Bill Scott.. A lot better than "I was an NHLer once" like many others in management\coaching positions in this organization.

Sounds like maybe MacT was unhappy with cap manager Rick Olczyk? Or than with Howson on board (cap management experience) perhaps the Assistant GM position could be used to add strength in terms of player development, which favors Scott?

His main responsibilities taken from the article in the OP.

Scott, a 33-year-old from Unionville, Ont., will be responsible for player and staff contract negotiations, scheduling, salary arbitration, salary cap management and day-to-day administrative duties. He will also serve the club’s liaison to the NHL regarding matters pertaining to the collective bargaining agreement.

So, nothing against Bill Scott, but does he have any experience with NHL contract negotiation, NHL salary arbitration, and the nuances of the CBA and the cap?

To me this seems like adding another rookie to the mix. Rookie management, coaching and players, and we wonder why we don't get anywhere.

Good for Ricky O. Sounds like he took aff at the right time, while still might have a career a head of him.

The dismissal of Olyzyk seems like it's tied to Belovs publicly stating his unhappiness with Dallas Eakins. I think the Oiler organization was probably disappointed that Olyzyk couldn't have found this out before the deadline where the Oilers could have got a return for Belov. Instead, they get nothing in return for him and are under more pressure now that Belov leaves with a sour taste in his mouth holding nothing back with his reasons for signing in the Khl.

If MacT needed Olyzyk's approval to figure out that Belov wasn't going to be back, MacT should be fired.

Big Russian money, 4 year deal... Unless Belov was getting that in North America, he wasn't staying in the NHL. MacT knew that.

So did the rest of the NHL.

Bill Scott did a fantastic job acquiring the right kind of assets for our farm team whenever they were needed, I see this as a positive, but we need a good replacement for the farm team.

I remember Olczyk mostly for his bumbling, I remember him stating that Hartikainen was waiver eligible when he wasn't and was called out on it in these forums only to come back later and change his stance. I remember one other occasion where he said something incorrect about the CBA but I can't recall at the moment. I see us as better off without him, the big surprise is that Scott Howson wasn't put in this spot.

I remember one year the Oilers called up Paajarvi after the trade deadline, only to find out that they were out of call-ups and couldn't use him.

What did Belov say about Eakins? I must have missed that.

I remember the blunders you're talking about too. In my opinion they were black marks for an organization struggling to find any credibility with its fan base after years of perceived incompetence. I remember thinking at the time that the team was going to cover his backside for now and sweep it under the rug publicly but fire him down the road once the heat died down.

With all the people on this management team, I have a hard time keeping track of everybody's title but I thought Howson was already the Assistant GM. What is his current position?

I don't even know what this means but since everything management does is perceived as negative by anyone ever I'm going to go with that.

BOOOO, THIS MOVE!

I'm ok with this. As others have stated, Olczyk has dropped the ball a few times. Scott has seemingly done wellin OKC.

Also, Scott has previous NHL GM experience. He interned under Poile in Nashville while Shero was still there, and he's only 33.

The deck chair shuffle. What did Olczyk do to warrant dismisle?
Meaningless.
A very Oilers move.

From the Oilers Nation article:
http://oilersnation.com/2014/4/21/a-busy-morning

One of the interesting things to come out of the Dany Heatley boondoggle was the fact that apparently both the Oilers and Senators were confused about when Heatley’s bonus was payable, which reflects badly on Olczyk. Then there was the time the Oilers may have been confused by Gilbert Brule’s waiver eligibility. Then there was that time that someone high up in the organization didn’t know how long the team had to sign Teemu Hartikainen. Again, it needs to be emphasized that we’re constructing a picture based on glimpses, but those sorts of things look really bad. Also bad in glimpses? Olczyk’s player evaluation – he may have been toeing the company line, but calling Khabibulin the team’s MVP and talking about the “great job†done by J-F Jacques doesn’t inspire confidence.

Hard to tell - but there may have been some good reasons.
