I’m dead serious when I say: this was announced so abruptly and with so little detail that I think Dundon may actually have just taken the idea from last night’s NCSU/UNC game.

I assume he was in attendance for that event and saw what happens to the atmosphere when you cram the crowd into a small space.

I just went to a luncheon with Peters and Dundon as speakers. Dundon said his first goal is to make an amazing experience for the 12,000 in the lower bowl and then worry about the upper bowl. Greensboro's "black hole" was mentioned and Dundon said that he doesn't care if the team is a laughing stock league-wide as long as every single Hurricanes fan in the arena is getting high value for their money.

It's time to get hyped y'all. Peters said he wants to make a run and force Francis to give him the "top-6 Playmaking C" he needs at the Trade Deadline. Interestingly, Peters was asked about missing out on Duchene and he said "I've coached Duchene 3 times internationally and I have a good read on where he needs to be played" (Wing). Dundon was asked directly about Tavares and said he couldn't comment on pending UFAs, but as a general strategy the team was gunning for "Superstars" rather than overpaying "average 30-something UFAs".

Both mentioned multiple times about accountability and the "type" of player they want. The underlying message seemed to be that there are players on the roster who aren't measuring up from a competition standpoint. Dundon expects the team to play very hard tonight.

Another interesting note, Peters unprovoked brought up how poorly the teams who played internationally this year have fared (Vancouver, Ottawa, and LA). How the travel really takes it out of the players and can be disruptive. Seemed like an indication that they had just internally discussed and rejected Finland next year.

I’m on board with everything mentioned here.

I sure hope this isn't all talk as this is incredibly exciting.

This is exactly what matters.

Put them in the section behind the opposing goaltender and give them vouchers for discounted alcohol.

And have them hold up huge heads of Canes greats behind the goalie...like the students do during free throws. It's bound to throw some of the shooters for a loop the first time they see Brindy's "I'm going to break you" stare coming at them at 6' in height.

I'm curious on how this is going to be done. How are they going to make sure people from the upper levels aren't sitting in the seats of someone in the lower level who is also attending the game? Or, are they going to give suite tickets to any regular lower level STH when they walk in to avoid it?

The report I saw said they would get "assigned" seats, so it's not a free for all. Not sure how they are going to do the logistics though.

There must be more empty seats currently available in the lower sections than there were tickets purchased up top. They probably are going to have stacks of tickets at the entry to reassign people down low like they usually do when they have random handouts.

There were a hundred snippits from the lunch which were all good. Above all else, Dundon honestly gives off the impression that he is willing to lose money to make a funner experience for fans.

As far as type of work ethic they are looking for... Aho was the example. Peters said that Aho went on the Montreal trip and, being injured, hung out with him most of the time. Peters was excited because Montreal reminds him more of a Euro feel and he thought it would remind Aho of his home. Peters said he was walking with Aho and asked him what he liked about Montreal (thinking cuisine, the architecture, etc.) and Aho replied "I like the energy in the Bell Centre". That man lives and breathes hockey. Peters said Aho put in an incredible amount of effort to get back on the ice tonight.

Love these quotes. When/what was this event you got to go to with Dundon and Peters? Are you Dundon or Peters?

From a personnel side it was previously a one-man show with Tulsky. They previously invested in raw data resources (which will probably ramp up with expansion) but now they are looking into bringing in more brain power.

Yes, while I was looking for work last year I saw one position open up with the Canes in the analytics team. But it wasn't analysis, it was database management for the data Tulsky was bringing in.

That timing matches with them investing in the raw data and now transitioning to expanding that team with more analysts.

I know John Taveres is still a long shot. But I got a feeling Dundon down the road is going to single handily be able to attract big free agents to sign here. This guy seems to be willing to do anything for the fans and players to make it a great experience for them. With him under the helm, getting more fans in seats, a new practice facility, arena upgrades, no longer being a budget team, etc. We might just start moving up the lists of places to go for free agents.
