With all due respect to Ovechkin...this is easily Gretzky. Forget as a point scorer, Gretzky was EASILY a better goal scorer than Ovechkin. Raw numbers obviously are hard to look at due to eras they played in...so let's compare them to their peers:
-In 86 Gretzky scored 215 points...nobody else broke 150, and only Lemieux broke 140.
-In 82 when Gretzky scored 92 yes it was an easier era to score in...but 2nd place in goals was Bossy (with 64). Gretzky scored 144% more goals than the next person (who in his own right is one of the best goal scorers of all time).
Ovechkin has never been as dominate as either statistic above when it comes to scoring goals-and that's ok and isn't a knock on Ovechkin at all (who in my book is a top 5 goal scorer in NHL history). People forget and/or don't realize just how above everybody else Gretzky was...and yes that includes scoring goals too.
