Gretzky is the greatest player of all time and practically owned the Art Ross for a longggggg time. OV has the same kind of effect on the Rocket for it seems now like his whole career.

with that being said, what would you bet on?

This poll seems silly to me. How are you betting on things that already happened? We know how many times Gretzky led the league in scoring

We already know this answer. Gretzky won the Art Ross 10 times in 12 seasons. As great as OV's hold on The Rocket has been Gretzky was more likely to win the Art than OV Rocket.

Well Ovechkin is about to lead the League in goals for the 8th time. And if the rules were the same as in the 80s and early 90s, Ovechkin wouldn't have been suspended in 2009-10 and would've been able to win it then too. And Ovechkin might still win a few looking at how poorly Matthews and Laine are comming along. This might very well be a 50/50 thing when it's all said and done. And it's not impossible Ovechkin wins more Rocket trophies than Gretzky won Art Ross trophies Before he retires.

By this thinking he would have had to answer the bell more for his multiple borderline hits.

It has been somewhat of a weak era of competition for goalscoring but OV is not doing things that a few other players have done while Wayne was so on his own, it took a player like Mario to put him into 2nd.

Ovechkin is barely winning his rockets

Even this year hes ahead but then someone comes within 2-3 goals and people question if they'll top him or not. He might win this year or he might not.

With Gretzky he was so far ahead of everyone that winning was an absolute certainty each year very early in the season

This isnt close...

Winning 8 rockets is doing something nobody else is doing. Or ever done actually. 2 is the most any other active player has.

With all due respect to Ovechkin...this is easily Gretzky. Forget as a point scorer, Gretzky was EASILY a better goal scorer than Ovechkin. Raw numbers obviously are hard to look at due to eras they played in...so let's compare them to their peers:

-In 86 Gretzky scored 215 points...nobody else broke 150, and only Lemieux broke 140.
-In 82 when Gretzky scored 92 yes it was an easier era to score in...but 2nd place in goals was Bossy (with 64). Gretzky scored 144% more goals than the next person (who in his own right is one of the best goal scorers of all time).

Ovechkin has never been as dominate as either statistic above when it comes to scoring goals-and that's ok and isn't a knock on Ovechkin at all (who in my book is a top 5 goal scorer in NHL history). People forget and/or don't realize just how above everybody else Gretzky was...and yes that includes scoring goals too.

While the answer to this poll is Gretz. Please name me those other few players. I guess for now Bobby Hull has 7 goal scoring titles as well, but looks like Ovi's 8th is not too far.

I meant in terms of making a case for best goalscorer ever, a few have a case. Reagrdless of competition, Wayne was so far ahead of everyone it was on another level from OV's dominance over his peers.

Gretzky would have the trophy clinched by the midway point. Ovi keeps it interesting until the last week or so.

If you want to argue Gretzky was better that's fine. But this is just wrong.

The answer is obviously Gretzky.

If Ovechkin wins the next 4 Rockets, then you could say they both won their respective awards 11 out of 15 seasons in which case it still wouldn't be even based on the way the poll question was asked because Ovechkin's prime extends back to his rookie season which was 2 years before he won the first Rocket.

If Ovechkin wins 11 rockets then question is answered
