I think you're right. That or Kiarostami's And Life Goes On (if you consider it a sequel).

From the horror genre, I like Dawn of the Dead and Amityville II: The Possession.

From the list, Blade Runner is probably the better choice.

Toy Story 2 and 3 were both excellent. Spiderman 2 (with Toby McGuire) was also great.

The godfather movies I find you have to be really in the right mode to watch, but T2 is a movie I can and did and do watch regularly.

The godfather movies I find you have to be really in the right mode to watch, but T2 is a movie I can and did and do watch regularly.

Agreed, The Godfather movies fall into the category for me of movies that are really good but also overrated. Part 1 and 2 are often listed amongst the greatest films of all time. Goodfellas is a better gangster film

Goodfellas is terrific (although I'd say Casino is just as good, it just came out afterwards), but The Godfather films are in a class by themselves. They're longer, more complex, and are more dialogue-heavy than a typical gangster film, so I get why some people don't have the appetite or time to fully appreciate them. But there's a good reason why they're ranked where they are.

Star Trek II and Toy Story 2 are fantastic choices. Both were massive leaps over the first films. Wrath of Khan scraped the stodgy rust off Star Trek, the Motion Picture, and found the classic chemistry of the TV show. The original Toy Story was clever and fun, but the sequel was so much more, with a truly great story behind it.

Still, no sequel can touch The Godfather II.

My first thought was The Empire Strikes Back, but Terminator 2 has turned out to be enduringly relevant beyond film as a cautionary tale with the AI theme, in addition to being an exciting action movie. I think it is a bit more science-fiction than Star Wars Ep. 5, which was perhaps more mythological.

Anyway. Godfather 2 is the gold standard. For me, Empire, T2 and BR2049 are very worthy selections.

Rocky 2 was very enjoyable. It picks up immediately after Rocky ends, so the film is more a continuation of the first story than a sequel featuring a new idea. What it lacks in originality it makes up for in charm. If you liked Rocky, you'll almost certainly like Rocky 2 because they're the same movie.

Of course, Rocky went on to clone multiple sequels that retold the same story over and over again. But its first sequel was great.

The Queen Alien from Aliens is the greatest monster ever created. Better than Godzilla, The T-Rex, The Predator, The Pale Man… it’s the gold standard of practical effects.
