I would like to include glam rock, industrial, gothic rock, and new wave, but this might be contentious. It should be 1977+ if it's post-punk.

Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
Ministry - The Land of Rape and Honey
The Cure - Seventeen Seconds
Sisters of Mercy - Some Girls Wander By Mistake
Depeche Mode - The Very Best of Depeche Mode
Talk Talk - Asides Besides
Killing Joke - Killing Joke
Dead Can Dance - Dead Can Dance/Garden of the Arcane Delights
Front 242 - Geography
Skinny Puppy - Brap: Back and Forth: Vols. 3-4

HM: Siouxsie and the Banshees - Juju
Prong - Primitive Origins
Cranes - Wings of Joy

I wasn't a big fan, but wasn't a hater either.
Heard their new tour advertised on the radio yesterday.. 'Summer of 99 Tour', which is great nostalgic marketing. (I think 3 Doors Down is also on the tour).
Time to dust off the Jncos, Adidas visor, and wallet chain..

Does Dry Cleaning or Yard Act count as post-punk? Because if they do then easily that but if it's the more traditional sense, then Jeopardy (1980), the debut by The Sound, or Echoes In Blues (2015) by a now defunct Aussie band called CIty Calm Down.

This is one of the songs from that band I mentioned before? Is it post-punk? It has the same sort of bassline and it's an English band so close enough for me. Either way I'd say it is moreso than stuff like Depeche Mode where we're stretching as that's usually more new wave pop or industrial/electronic.

I might be casting the net out too widely, but my thought was that it has to be a response to punk, be influenced by punk, or be similar in spirit to punk although post-dating 1977 when punk became its own genre all of a sudden. That's roughly how I see new wave, bands like Joy Division and gothic rock, and industrial like Throbbing Gristle as qualifying, respectively. I'm open to debating it, being wrong, . . . But those two bands mentioned at the top of your post sound close enough to me going by the criteria I just mentioned.

The Fall, Modern English, and The Sound are fantastic off this list. Wire is pretty good too. There's something very distinctive that I can't quite put my finger on about a lot of the albums you've recommended here and in that other thread ("Your favourite non-popular bands"), right down to the cover art.

Alright, my favorite genre of music, I'll go Top 25 albums without repeating a band

To me, it's a slippery category, so some of these might be more contentious than others (in no order whatsoever):

The Cure--Pornography
REM--Murmur/Reckoning
Throbbing Gristle--Can the World Be as Sad as It Seems
The Psychedelic Furs--The Psychedelic Furs

lmfao. Throbbing Gristle is the band I use to basically "check" on a persons actual knowledge of Industrial music. When somebody says their favorite music is industrial, I always mention that I like Throbbing Gristle and like 90% of the time am met with a "who?" and I know I'm not going to get anywhere deep into the genre with them. I'm not expecting them to like them, but they should at least know who they are.

Good list though. I thought about having Sonic Youth on my list (would have landed at #2 with Dirty or Daydream Nation) but decided to leave them off for reasons of slippery definitions. Viable though, for sure.

This is not a critique of the opinion, but I don’t know if I’ve ever heard either of those albums to be known as their best album. Nothing wrong with it. Just interesting to note.

Those are their two most goth albums. I've heard a lot of people rave about those two. There are at least two different The Cure's: the depressive goth version, and the happy-bouncy-poppy version. I like both versions, but the former about ten times as much.

Looking at these lists, I have to say that I guess I just don't care that much about post-punk. Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Joy Division... even thinking about their music makes me depressed!

The older I get, the more I seem to get drawn to music that is more rhythm-based, joyous, funky/groovy... basically American and/or black music that almost feels like an antithesis to the aforementioned groups. But hey, a good song is a good song, and it could be just a case of me not having gotten acquainted with these bands.

You might like Gang of Four, Midnight Oil, XTC, Television (This antedates post-punk, but it has a similar sound to this short list I'm making right now.), The Teardrop Explodes, The Police, etc. In my opinion, there's a lot of upbeat, bouncy post-punk in these lists as well.
