I find that overall rating is not always an indicator that prospects are NHL ready. Usually the thing holding them back is their physical stats. I'll always check a players individual attributes to figure out if I can use him- If a player is in the rated in the high 60's or early 70's, but has a decnt all round game, then I've started to play them.
Typical example - Monahan in Calgary is a little slow at just 80 speed/acceleration but has a decent enough all-round to switch between my 2nd-3rd lines and not look out of place.
