Ondrej Pavelec

But seriously, how could you create this list without Ducky or Selanne? And don’t give me that “it’s a different franchise” stuff - Doan won it for Arizona.
And Dale and Selanne were 2nd and 3rd, not their fault some fans voted wrong.

In their relatively short History, how could it be anyone but Kovalchuk?

Feels weird not to include players like Savard, Heatley, Hossa for the Thrashers but really short stints I guess. Kozlov should be an option though.

Obviously Dale Hawerchuk towers above in Winnipeg Jets (1979) history, but with the nature of the franchises as is...

Came to say Dale. I know he was listed under the Phoenix team but he was a Jet. Also how the hell Doan beat out Dale?? Thats ridiculous.

Yeah. The way these franchises are being broken up is a real double-whammy of stupid results.

1)Jets players aren't getting their due in the Arizona polls because "they're Jets, not Coyotes".

but then...

2)They're not included in Jets polls because they're not Thrashers.

It's just silly to pretend this makes any sense. It's also the only franchise where we really have to worry about this. Nobody else has had two different iterations of the same Team under two different "Franchises". Just make an exception to the pedantic nonsense and identify Jets players with the Jets Franchise.

Then what happens to Kovalchuk? He's winning the poll right now. Does he just fade into oblivion?

I don't get the hand waiving over the old jets franchise.
They're two separate franchises that share a name.
Nobody from the 1880s-1950s iteration of the senators was in the senators thread.

I guess. Creating this whole mess that obviously confuses people and makes a muck out of the polls just so one player in Kovalchuk can get his due, just seems like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Maybe you let Thrashers compete within the "best Jets" category and just go toe-to-toe on even footing with Classic Jets if you have to. But i'm perfectly okay with having the Thrashers just having their own sidenote poll. Especially since Kovalchuk himself (the specific erased played in question), also ends up in another poll. :dunno:

Which player from the generation literally only a handful of people can remember in person, would've actually legitimately competed in the Sens poll? Like sure, go ahead...throw 'em in there. But there isn't anyone there who is moving the needle off the ultimate winner (and runners up).

You're missing the point the same name doesn't make it the same franchise

What the hell is a franchise.

People cheer for players or teams, not franchises.

What's your favorite hockey franchise?

some cheer for franchises lol

The NHL like many things in life today is hopelessly corporatized, and it's been a business more than anything since like the NHA.

Winnipeg should have probably followed Minnesota in terms of naming, because the Thrashers players did exist people cheered for the team and the players, and some of them went to the new Jets.

There was no drama or controversy for Canes fans in their poll voting for a guy who played for Hartford. Because they know it's the same team

I dont think Colorado fans pine for Larry MaDonald or Joel Quenneville to be Colorado team greats... they get these were different teams

Jets just want to be oddball about it. Maybe they should of had some new creativity in naming a team.

How is it being oddball?

Kovalchuk literally never played for a team called the Jets.

This problem only exists on hfboards. Tell someone in real life that your favorite Jet was Hull or Hawerchuk or Scheifele and no one bats an eye.

ITT people who don't know what a rhetorical question is.
What is the rhetorical question? If this poll series was about favourite teams or most popular players, then sure we could associate the old Jets with the new Jets. But this thread is asking who the best player was from a singular NHL franchise. In this instance, it happens to be the franchise which has existed from 1999 until present day (Atlanta from 1999 to 2011, Winnipeg from 2011 to now).
