I'm sorry I can only take "and it didn't go" so many times before I want to throw a brick through the TV screen. I hate it especially after a Devils misses the net or the opposing goalie makes an unbelievable save.

I know I'm gonna get flamed for this but Grapes is awesome IMO. I don't agree with everything he says but the guy calls it like he sees it and doesn't worry about who he offends. We could use a few more people in the media who don't worry about keeping everything PC. Sometimes he's funny and occasionally he even makes some great points.

Agreed. Take a stance on things. Stir things up. It makes watching the game a lot more interesting.

As a side note I can't take Mike Milbury, Ray Ferraro, Keith Jones, Jeremy Roenick, and Eddie Olczyk because I just know they are anti-Devils.

However, Brian Engblom always has nice things to say about our team.

I've watched a few SJ games this year because I have Niemi, Pavelski, and Couture on my fantasy team and they are outstanding.

I really like Jim Hughson.

I'm going to get killed for this one, but I do like Sam Rosen. He describes the game well. I like Howie Rose in that he has NO problem ripping on the Isles (no homer there) as well as my Mets when he does radio.

I've listened to Kenny Albert on radio and he's fabulous

Though it would be a train wreck if his brother Marv called the games. Mar-TIN Bro-DEUR with the - uh - great saaaave

John Forsulnd in Carolina, Bennanati in Washington, Strader in Phoenix, and ole nasally Jeanneret

And of course Doc and Chico. Almost goes without mention

Agreed love Jim Hughson's voice. And he seems non-biased to me.

JR's OK, especially since you can tell he can't STAND Milbury:laugh:

I think Steve and Chico are awful together.

no chemistry. Hard to follow at times.
Dano and Steve worked well when Steve was the in studio host.

And Deb is on an entirely different planet

Funny but I don't notice the overuse of canned lines.

John made Rags broadcasts barely-tolerable.

And when paired with Doc? Made a great team for the national games. Truthfully I thought Davidson was the best of any hockey commentator, analyst or otherwise.

Chicos retiring after this year!!

Heard it from Marek vs Wyshynski

Very interesting. But I'm skeptical.

Agree with guys above on Rosen and Kenny Albert. Like both those guys. Funny that Rosen gets no national love.

Every time I listen to Doc and Eddie O, Doc sets up questions for the uninformed viewer or a new fan and Eddie O shoots him down with an answer like, "No." I don't think he's professional and definitely insanely biased.

Can you imagine if Don Cherry had lasted as a color guy where he'd have the whole game to talk?

JR's never really struck me as being anti Devils. IIRC he was actually very complimentary of the Devils during the Philly game last week

NOOOOO!!!! :(

He always brought a sense of unintentional comedy relief doing play-by-play that will be sorely missed if Dano joins Steve. No offense to Dano....

Hope this is only a rumor.

Speaking for our broadcasts, which people put in more time analyzing than the actual games, people don't realize how dull other broadcasts around the league are

Chico and Steve are fine and provide a loose/fun atmosphere on the broadcasts

Yeah our fanbase is a bit spoiled on this one for having Doc so many years. You gain a whole new appreciation for Steve and Chico when watching the broadcasts of some other teams in the area.

I hope this is not true (nothing against Dano who is great on TV) because I will really miss Chico.

Eh maybe I am easy to please but I think Steve and Chico go quite well together. Both are easy going and lack the pretension of other teams' TV personalities. They make the broadcast fun and Steve's researched stats complement Chico's stories/anecdotes nicely.

Again, watch some other home broadcasts - we actually have it really good even after Doc's departure.

+1. Grapes is awesome.

I love Doc, favorite sports commentator ever, and I don't think that's being a homer. Even now that he's gone big-time, he makes games feel special.

I'll miss Chico, but I think Dano will do a good job if he really is taking over as color. Steve is okay, but as far as New York metro play-by-play guys go, I'll take Howie Rose. Then again, I'm a Mets fan.

Deb sucks. I'd even rather have Trautwig.

in my opinion
Howie Rose is awful (although I like Goring for some reason)
Sam Rosen & Michelletti are also awful

I don't really like Steve Cang - but he isn't bad, just big shoes to fill
I'm ok with chico

John Davidson was good, Trautwig sucks, Roenick & Milbury are ok together

I like the connection Chico has with his partners, whether it be Doc or Steve. You can feel Chico's love for the game come across all the time. He's a self-admitted homer, but that's what we want out of OUR color guy and I just love his enthusiasm and the fact that he is an amazing guy overall. One of my favorite moments was when I finally got to go into the Fire Lounge and had a discussion with him. The fact he is willing to talk shop with any fan shows what a great guy he is. You can tell he's starting to slow down more and more at his older age, but when I was younger, I thought there was nothing better than Doc and Chico during a hockey game. I'll miss him if this is his last year, it'll feel as though my last part of my childhood hockey memories will be gone if he retires on top of Marty.

For around the league, I agree with pretty much everything mentioned. For the American teams, the Stars and Sharks broadcasts are fantastic. They have a great rapport with each other and call the game fairly. I do feel the Canadian channels have the best play by play guys in the business, specifically Miller and Cuthbert.

Islanders have been so lousy throughout the years that I rarely watch a game, let alone pay attention to the play by play. Will have to really take one in to get a grasp on Rose. I imagine he's pretty good because he's ace on Met's broadcast.

I also don't mind Trautwig. What do people dislike about him? At the very least, after I've knocked a couple back, I get a giggle out of his name, almost every time.
