Why is the NHL trying to get rid of those type of rivalries. :( Mccarty was the man that night. That night alone should get him into the hall of fame lol.

Gotta say, that is one of the best non-brawl, toe-to-toe tilts I've seen. Before the announcer even got the first punch called, boys had thrown at least half a dozen clean connectors (each? lol).

I like Avs/Wings video more for the flying, spinning Patrick Roy who enters the equation, plus his quality bout with Vernon (I was cheering so hard for Roy there, as I watched Vernon and the Flames beat my Habs in '89). Not on the same level of pure fisty-cuffy goodness though.

To me, the Avs/Wings brawl is at a different level because of what it meant in the bigger picture. That was not just a fight, it was a battle for conference supremacy. Rarely if ever has another brawl had that kind of meaning.

Not the best individual fights, though quite excellent. The series between these two is outstanding.

I agree the sports thrive through rivalry. Our basketball team sucked in high school but everyone would come to the games where we played our rival. Also, lemeiux was one of the bigger ****** in the NHL. A modern day version of him is Sean Avery.

the best fight I have even seen was the Mike Keane vs. Scott Walker bout while Keane was with the Rangers

no defence, just lefts from keane to walkers noggin and rights from walker to keane's noggin.

A true slobberknocker

can't post the link from work, but worth a look.

My big memory from that fight, aside from it being a great fight, is that moron Messier lurking around being a *******.

Gotta love the Flames finishing with one guy on the bench, and Lowry intentionally putting the puck over the glass with under 30 seconds left so that Berube can come out of the box.

I agree, that was awesome, I've never seen anything like it.

This is one of my favorite fights, and both players were throwing punches really fast.

Also, this is another great fight, although one sided..........
