According to flyers.nhl.com (http://flyers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=763801)

The Philadelphia Flyers have relieved head coach Craig Berube of his duties with the club, according to general manager Ron Hextall.

Berube was the 18th head coach in Flyers history and was named to the post on October 7, 2013. He recently completed his second season as head coach and leaves the position with a record of 75-58-28 (.553).

Prior to being named head coach, Berube spent six seasons as a Flyers assistant. He has spent 18 seasons with the organization as a player, assistant coach and head coach, doing all three with both the Flyers and Phantoms.

The team will begin a search for a new head coach immediately.

Its unthinkable that Craig Berube could even be an NHL coach, let alone be one for almost two years. The guy has very little knowledge and almost no experience. This team needs someone to teach X's and O's. They need to learn structure and develop a system that fits the players strength. Look at Lavi in Nashville. They have a defensive team that know what they are doing in their own end. He compliments them well with more offense. The result is a top NHL team.

I like Benoit Groulx. Already coached Giroux, has been coach of the year in the Q and won worlds.

I fear someone within would get promoted if Hextall told Berube to find employment with another organization. Don't think Babcock would come here.
Who replaces him? I would wait to answer that after the season is over and coaches start getting pink slips.
I will say this, if Boudreau is fired in Anaheim I hope they stay far away. Unless you like disappointing/choking in the playoffs.

The obvious perfect solution is to have a working link to this board behind the bench, so our collective wisdom can make in- and between-game decisions. Maybe program it so the orders are simulated-spoken by Herb Brooks or at least Kurt Russell playing Herb Brooks.

Gotta imagine if Hextall thought he was the problem he would have gotten rid of him. I've got no problem if they get rid of him, but Hextall seems like the kind of guy that would have done it by now if it was in his plans. Kind of like the opposite of Laviolette's situation. If he was gonna canned it would have happened by now, thrown someone in there on an interim basis and hire someone new in the offseason (or keep the interim guy). Since it hasn't happened yet, I don't think it will until some time next season. Then again, I've been wrong before...

Promoting from within would be awful. I don't want Murray. After that it's what, Murphy, Lappy (the one guy with less experience than Berube, also absurd that he's an NHL assistant right now), or Cote (Who is basically Berube a few years ago and is too busy chugging hemp smoothies).

The rumors of Babcock wanting a large amount of control overlapping into GM duties have me concerned. I'm not sure I want that. On the other hand, I'm not sure I'm worried about his attachment to terrible players. Cleary is the clear example there, and that's at least understandable since Cleary was in Detroit playing for Babcock for a while, and he played very well in the past. Our garbage players are guys he has no attachment or bias towards, in theory.

I guess I'm 50/50 on Babcock. If it's between him and Berube the choice is easy though.
