Not a true #1 c based on?

Exactly, with 1st line talent he is more than good enough to be 1C on our team. Just having Raymond and Seider and he is having his best season to date, a year removed from having been hurt, and struggling. Add another 1st forward and he is more than fine. Even if you don't count there being 32 first line centers as admittedly some teams don't actually have one, Larkin is no worse than Top 15 in the center category.

Playing on vastly inferior teams, Larkin is 24th in pts among centers according to NHL.com the past 5 seasons, and 2 or 3 of these guys aren't really centers, certainly not full time. Also, he is better defensively than a fair number of these guys.

I love Bert but you really can't go more than 4 years, and that's risky with back issues. I'd go a bit more on average but no more than 4 years. Just me.

How about one of those cute jersey number contracts that are all the rage?

$5.9M x 6 (5.9) years with a couple big July 1 paydays and some trade protection (list of x# of teams he can't be traded to) to keep him happy.
