Miss me with the arguments for "It's only 775k" or "he's only going to be the 7/8D" or w/e other BS about him being a solid/dependable/big boy/good in the room/etc. piece.

Another signing that shows the team values bad players more than they should, even if it is at a waive-able salary and if he is 7/8D on the depth chart.

Harpur is a bad player, and should never be given an extension, let alone multi-year.

Any 7/8D out there that are good players? They wouldn't be 7/8D then.

2 years? Is Drury still expecting the d to be bad enough in 2 years that this guy needs to be around?

As someone who loves defenseman, I have really liked everything he has provided ever since he was called up. He is a big dude (6’6” 230lbs) who can play a physical game and clears the front of his own net. He makes the simple plays and that’s all you can ask for out of a bottom pairing defenseman. While not an excellent skater, he can move for his size. You can’t have an undersized offensive defenseman in Hajek or Jones playing in the playoffs. You can also have Harpur play 7D and rotate him in and out of the line up if we acquire another defenseman for the playoffs.

Harpur is pretty bad. But he's serviceable in a 7th D role so this isn't terrible. That is still a gaping hole they need to fill.

He's another in the mold Steven Kampfer / Steve Eminger all over again. Pretty bad, and you don't really want them in the lineup every day, but they'll do good enough when they need to be there.

At the NHL minimum it's fine, and he's not good enough to be a threat to go somewhere else, so he's depth but he's our depth. I do hope the team is still looking to actively fill the 6D role and move on from Hajek at some point though.

The bigger issue I have is why this team always seems to insist on carrying one useless forward with this team. McKegg, then Blais, now that Blais is (temporarily) gone seems Leschyshyn is a fixture in the lineup. I just don't get it. It's like there's an unwritten rule in DolanLand that one player on the roster must be reserved for someone who does nothing but go for a skate every game.

But he's not 7 8d here .. more like 5 6. At least That's how they've been playing him.

Any harpur fights available on video?
He's 6D til NYR bring in a better guy. Kulikov, Gavrikov, McCabe, Mikkola, ..

Cheap depth and can be buried. Maybe he gets plucked on waivers. Better than Nemeth for a fraction of the cost and I still expect them to add a D at the deadline.

Over the top take. It's a nothing deal. If he sucks they waive him and send him back to Hartford. He's a spoke in the wheel should an injury occur and it costs us next to nothing. Who cares.

He’s been better than expected although shows how bad Jones and Hajek have been. Harpur is usually a 7th but has not been bad since he was in the lineup. Better than Hajek and Jones defensively.

Let’s hope he does not drop the gloves. He is awful at it

Are people really getting upset over giving Harpur a tiny contract?

If so, you need to evaluate your decisions.

He's been better than advertised and the Rangers are going to need cheap depth guys near league minimum or ELC with the cap crunch for next year.

Plus after years of going heavy on defensemen in the draft ,the Rangers don't have any guaranteed defensive prospects close to ready.

Youtube getting soft with the age restriction on the fight vids.
Well, maybe not for the Devane fight...that was brutal. Not suitable for any age. Talk about leading with your chin.

Although Haprur is big, not very strong, and that tracks. Plus probably better if the team isn't still doing the dinosaur thinking of, "it's so intimidating if we have one big guy who might fight" and adopts the mentality of team toughness, which is more about whoever's on the ice being prepared to defend one another than about one guy who plays a fraction of the time being a "deterrent."
