You bring up a good point; the bottom line. I think this can go either way, and he could end up kind of being the Mike Gartner of coaches, for the lack of a better term.9 Playoff series wins in 19 years doesn't cut it when it's not easy for a coach to make the HOF in the first place.

So what's his excuse for the 06-07 Predators? You really do need to discount the early years of the Predators, exposed players in the expansion draft were nothing like what the Golden Knights got to pick from.
Saw the title and thought, no way. Hasn't done enough yet.Currently 5th all-time in career wins with 762. Will pass Al Arbour for 4th if he returns next year
56.4% career points%, tied with Al Arbour.
19 seasons with only two franchises. 11 trips to the playoffs.
Grew the hockey culture in Nashville as their first ever head coach of an expansion franchise. Helped them become legitimate.
Took a Washington team to a destination they had failed to reach for the entire generation of that team, and decades before that as well.
Won the Calder Cup with the 1994 Portland Pirates
Three division titles.
Two President's Trophies
One Jack Adams Award
One Stanley Cup
Is Barry Trotz destined for the Hall of Fame?
So what's his excuse for the 06-07 Predators?
There’s not a coaches category. So no.
Coaches go in the Builders category.
When they have helped build the game as an executive or innovator. In what way does Trotz fit that definition?
He helped build up the Nashville market to what it is today, without Trotz's stabilizing presence behind the bench there is a legitimate chance the Predators may not be in Nashville.
No. Winning a Stanley Cup is a pretty significant change in a coaches resume.Does this thread get made if Washington doesn't win the Cup this year?
It’s hall of Fame not hall of Ultimate Success. He’s done a lot for both franchises he’s been apart of so far. He’s a memorable name and eyebrows.9 Playoff series wins in 19 years doesn't cut it when it's not easy for a coach to make the HOF in the first place.
He could just as easily wait for another team to fire their coach. He’s got timeGuess it depends on what he does with his next team. He just turned in his letter of resignation to the caps. Guess he’s going to Long Island.
Yes,
It's hard not to see him pass Hitchcock and Arbour to move in to #3 wins all-time.
His accomplishments already surpass Pat Burns, who is in.
Hitchcock has the exact same resume, and is a shoe-in.
