9 Playoff series wins in 19 years doesn't cut it when it's not easy for a coach to make the HOF in the first place.

You bring up a good point; the bottom line. I think this can go either way, and he could end up kind of being the Mike Gartner of coaches, for the lack of a better term.

I had to double-take when I saw his stats in the OP. I always knew he was good, but hadn't realized how impressive his stat line is. But as mentioned above, it's about the bottom line, too.

My gut feeling is a simple no. Not now anyways. It's tougher to get into HHOF as a coach/builder.

For career records that seem similar in length, wins and losses let me ask this. If Paul Maurice wins a Cup does he get into the HHOF?

Aurora, On.
Currently 5th all-time in career wins with 762. Will pass Al Arbour for 4th if he returns next year
56.4% career points%, tied with Al Arbour.
19 seasons with only two franchises. 11 trips to the playoffs.
Grew the hockey culture in Nashville as their first ever head coach of an expansion franchise. Helped them become legitimate.
Took a Washington team to a destination they had failed to reach for the entire generation of that team, and decades before that as well.
Won the Calder Cup with the 1994 Portland Pirates
Three division titles.
Two President's Trophies
One Jack Adams Award
One Stanley Cup

Is Barry Trotz destined for the Hall of Fame?
Saw the title and thought, no way. Hasn't done enough yet.

BUT, you presented a very compelling case. I think he's in. Or at least, will go in.

I do not think HOF coach. He was just about to be fired. Going to say no as of right now.

So what's his excuse for the 06-07 Predators?

They were a 110 point team that lost to a more experienced 107 point team. We lost the first game in 2nd OT and the last two games were lost by one goal. I can't recall many details from that round but there are so many reasons a team doesn't make it every year, it's just how the game is played.

Sometimes it's just the luck, good or bad, of the draw.

He helped build up the Nashville market to what it is today, without Trotz's stabilizing presence behind the bench there is a legitimate chance the Predators may not be in Nashville.

Eh, that’s a bit of an exaggeration. The Preds were at risk of relocation because of Jim Balsillie trying to sabotage their relationship with the city and sneak them away to Hamilton (boy does THAT alternate timeline look dumb in retrospect). Thank Gary Bettman and Craig Liepold for saving them, but Trotz is an odd one to assign credit for that saga.

On a broader basis, David Poile going into the HHOF for building Nashville as a hockey town makes sense. Trotz, much less so. He’s just a coach. If there was a coaches wing of the Hall he’d have a great case, but without a coaches wing it would make as much sense to put him in the Players category as the Builders category.

It’s hall of Fame not hall of Ultimate Success. He’s done a lot for both franchises he’s been apart of so far. He’s a memorable name and eyebrows.

Most of his 19 years were with an expansion team with talent ranging from bad to “pretty good”.

Guess it depends on what he does with his next team. He just turned in his letter of resignation to the caps. Guess he’s going to Long Island.

He could just as easily wait for another team to fire their coach. He’s got time

I don’t think so, at least not yet.

Will they superimpose a neck in his picture if he does eventually make it?
