How much money can they realistically spend next year ? or this FA rather?
Could they add two guys at a total cost of 11 mil?

Can we just sign Yandle and call it a day?
Yandle--EJ
Beauch--Barrie
Holden--BabyAvs

MacKinnon on a bridge deal for the same money as Boedker? That's... Unrealistic...
In all honesty what do you pay MacKinnon? He didn't show something that would suggest you'd have to pay him 7 or more long term. Matt Duchene for instance showed much more when he got his deal. Of course Matt signed his deal after his 5th season in the league, but still Matt's first three years have been better than Nate's IMHO.
Another thing that crossed my mind is that the Avs surely won't sign a D-man this year, at least not an impact one, given the expansion draft in their sights. As it is they just have to protect EJ and Tyson, with Frankie being the 3rd one most likely given that the PA will never allow players with NMC's to enter the draft.
If you protect those three, you have Z on the outside. As others have suggested I think the Avalanche will opt for the option of protecting 8 skaters and one goalie, and the list will most likely look like others posted in various threads here:
Landeskog
Duchene
MacKinnon
EJ
Barrie
Zadorov
Beauchemin
Grigorenko
Varlamov/Pickard
It will be interesting to watch what happens, as I think that the market for defensemen will be especially quiet.
The PA may not have a choice. The SPC doesn't protect expansion draft, and with the rules the way they are, Chicago may screw the whole thing up if they can't give up a NMC player.
Is it really ideal though? When you look at the Avs only, I agree it is but if you look at the entire league in general it might be better for the Avs if teams are forced to protect their NMCs. Now I'm saying this without much research so take that with a grain of salt but due to the Avs' lack of depth and considering they have only one NMC the Avs can protect most of their important players. teams that have more NMCs and better depth than the Avs will have some very good players available. That's the way I see it anyway. I might be wrong...wouldn't be the first time.Point taken, it's just so much up in the air, for the Avs it would be ideal if they weren't forced to protect Beauchemin.
Then they could protect:
Landeskog
Duchene
Nate
Grigorenko
Soderberg - could be lost due to the cap percentage rule
