Ms. Strang is doing all the rounds with radio and podcasts right now.

My not-so-professional opinion (based on my professional past) is that this was a cheap way for her to get a lot of publicity; but professionally speaking, I think she accomplished this with a weak article that relies on the biases of its target audience against the Coyotes to pass muster. I think had it been about any other franchise - particularly a Canadian franchise - the reader criticism would have been far more intense and similar to what we've said about it here.

Particularly when she only brought two new things to light (that I've seen) that the media hasn't already chewed on in depth. And those were dissected far more than what she did.

What I found "interesting" was searching for Strang the other day and Google brought me Twitter postings and re-Tweet sharing. All of them were other writers from The Athletic trying to pump the tires. The "interest" in the article was artificial.

She's getting a lot of boost from other bloggers, podcasters, and beat writers who are taking her Messiah complex at face value. She said on a podcast with Sean McIndoe today that she's glad that the Coyotes freaked out at her, and that maybe that saved some employees some grief.

It's like with each passing day this thing gets built up into a bigger and bigger deal in the minds of the hockey media; the way things are going, I'm not sure that Katie Strang won't come to think that she is solely responsible for saving the jobs of half of the Coyotes franchise staff.

Well, she didn't save Craig Morgan's The Athletic job or the dozens of others who lost their jobs with that publication.....

I've been listening to all of her podcast appearances, too (it's easy enough if you do it on 1.5x speed). She's definitely holding court. All of these men (especially) and women are 100% falling down to her feet and groveling as she recounts her story as supreme investigative journalist super-woman. The time is so right culturally for her. The way she made a name for herself is commendable and she's written some important pieces. It would be career suicide for anyone in hockey media to challenge her in any way. The Coyotes were EXTREMELY unlucky to cross her. Especially given the globally poor equity of their own brand. The only thing easier in hockey than trashing the Coyotes is praising Katie Strang.

I haven't heard anyone ask her any good questions whatsoever. Like, "How much of these business issues are pandemic related?" Or "Have you looked into any other teams? Is this a systematic issue that has spread across multiple organizations?" NONE of that.

They let her get away with the most obvious qualifiers like "He CLAIMED to be a billionaire" - as if there is some major, and commonly accepted ostensible caveat to this. She does this consistently in all of her speaking about the issue. She adds these little throw-away qualifiers that hint at the idea that everything good about this group is just a lie and nothing they've ever said is the truth, but never expands on this. It's fairly transparent if you just listen for it.

Most of the podcasts I've listened to so far featuring her are in some way related to the Athletic, as well. They haven't been interviews so much as praise and compliments sessions. She's on a congratulatory tour, right now. She's not even promoting. She's just calling in and enjoying gushing praise.

Did you catch the first 20 minutes of the 31 thoughts pod today?

Meruelo coming in with that big dick energy.
If true, that is huge for the team. Makes it sound more like him wanting the gambling license rather than the team, but you have to have the team to be eligible for the license.

The leg. would permit the teams to run on site books. Someone is working to stall it behind the scenes and I have been trying to dig and see who. I have contacted the sponsors and they must not be comfortable leaking the details.

"...let's see...something called...HF BOH Consortium, LLC? Who the heck?..."

It's 1am, I've had too much to drink, and I'm seeing on the BOH forum that Meruelo essentially wants to turn the coyotes into a casino. Can someone please help me make sense of all this? I just want to know that the team is staying long term, man.

The subject in BoH is about Arizona allowing sports team owners to hold a gaming license. There's a bill currently working it's way through the legislature to accomplish this. The current gaming compact with the Native American tribes ends in 2023 and can't be extended without new legislation.

This would not just affect the Coyotes. It would also include the DBacks, Cardinals and Suns.
