Friedman on TJMS:

*Before the weekend games, didn't think Leafs had any intention of making coaching change. As recently as Saturday, doesn't think they considered a coaching change. Team does realize that runway is getting much shorter, but doesn't think they want to change coach.

*Believes that they want to give Keefe more healthy defense (Liljegren & Benn back this week), but acknowledges team know that losing will change the timeline.

*Coaches & players need to work with each other. Doesn't think players & coach are doing that. Thinks their biggest priority is getting Keefe & Marner back on the same page. Marner is too important to the team, and needs to feel comfortable and supported by the coach.

*Believes that Matthews is still resigning in Toronto - doesn't think it will be a long-term extension. Has 0 reason to believe that Matthews is unhappy or has issues.

Sounds like the issues keep coming back to Marner. Everything revolves around him and his needs.

What about Matthews? He is struggling too? Why not cater to him? Because he doesn't complain?

Problem is that Marner without Matthews may end up being a lot more ineffective than the other way around. You'd need to give him Tavares then.

Three things from that

A) #runitback it's all we do

B) love that the coaches and players don't listen to each other yet we're not making a change

C) Auston will hold us hostage until he gets too old to, and at that time he'll get max money long term. Signing short term so you can maximize your money every 2/3 years like lebron is part of the reason why this team is rotten. This isn't the NBA it's a collective team game. We have too many dudes that think their personal brand is more important then the collective. Next year would have been the best time to trade him if our GM wasn't a moron. He's going to get 2 years with nmc clause on repeat, we will never get the opportunity to get value from him it'll either work out or he'll leave for noting ( see Bosh with the raps)

Not getting an eight-year commitment from a marquee UFA player would be a disappointment.

He's getting 2/3 so he can maximize made money it's been the rumor for a while

What....what is he going for then?

If it's another 5 year deal I'll take it since we have no power. Get him to commit this summer and then immediately commence a re-tool
I interpreted it as "not an 8 year extension". Beyond that, no idea if it's 2, 3, 5 years etc.

It's funny how the argument always switches to "but past series wins!" when it's pointed out that whatever is being complained about in the moment isn't unique to the Leafs.

Did you know that Minnesota actually has 6 straight first round losses too (and actually failed to win a single game in the 2nd round when they made it the year before that)? I'm guessing not, because it's not endlessly repeated in response to literally everything.
Why did you not meet with the media today?

This team should have been blown up after the Columbus .. or even more glaring Montreal series loss. Yes we almost beat Tampa, but Corey Perry (thanks Dubas) wanted it more.

Game 4 was embarrassing. Keefe was giddy before the game started. Where is the killer instinct?

Reason why Dubas doesn’t like Babckock is because Dubas is all about sunny ways and build back better propaganda.

Listen buddy, just like Biden saying inflation is 0% no one believes you, and your loyal (paid) supporters are starting to turn on you.

I miss Spezza… why did they run him out of this dressing room again??

But hey, at least while teams (Naz) are lifting the Stanley cup, we are marching in parades.

He and his agent will want to set him up to have a new deal the same time as the upcoming big cap increase that's going to happen over the next few seasons.

If he's willing to sign any type of extension, the Leafs should take him up for it. Gives them longer to think about what they want to do with him

Dubas is a dumb f*** for running it back with our awful defence. But at this point he'll stick around till the end of the year, would earn some respect if he fired shitbox Sheldon Keefe

I doubt Dubie would fire his bestie unless he's ordered to by Shanny or the board .

The people defending the teams playoffs and comparing us to other shotty performing first round chokers are just straight losers

The leafs were touted as a Blackhawk level dynasty back in 2017

Even the most rational of fans expected to get 1 cup and multiple deep runs 10 years into the AM34 era. This is year 7 and we've got no cups obviously but also nothing past round 1

This whole team, from management to coaching to the players have been absolutely failures and deserve every bit of criticism that comes there way.

They've failed to live up to the barest of expectations.

I'd give them this season if possible just to see if they can turn it around when it is/should be increasingly obvious that this team won't be brought back if we go out in round 1 a 7th straight time

They need to play like they hate losing. They need to be sickened by losing. Have to be willing to start on time, to make physical sacrifices for the team, to let their egos drop for tbe benefit of the team

They need to show they have the desire and mindset of winners and guys who want to redeem their past failures

Another 10-15 games like the first 19 this year and they'll have shown they've given up for the 2nd time in 4 years

Yes. It’s over. Dubas tried and failed miserably. It’s done, he made his bed and now has to lie in it. No choice but to trade matthews for what you can get.
you are right here. The reality is starting to set in for the fans on just how bad this Maple Leafs team really is.

you know, it is really sad because it the leaf fans who have to suffer. Constantly being ridiculed by fans of other teams and to be honest it is just a downright embarrassment to the city of Toronto. Just a loser product.

They also dont hold Matthews accountable.
