my point wasn't about any one player in particular , i'm just saying the rule work well since i don't believe teams should be able to control players indefinitely in the minors and deny players an opportunity to make the NHL if another team is willing to give them a shot
That's what I believe it's group 6 UFA is for. Players have to play 80 NHL games by the time they're 25 or they then become UFA instead of RFA if they don't have a contract. Leivo will be 25 next year when his current deal runs out and has only accrued 41. They have to give him 39 games this year or they don't control him any longer.
Your point, while perhaps fair, wasn't really related to the point I was making is that you can keep both depth players and sending Aaltonen down isn't preventing him from being good depth.
