Why wouldn’t anyone just rather pay Chychrun?

Ekholm was great, but at 33y (this year) this is damm heavy price to pay

Chychrun is young but has missed a ton of games due to injury (117 between 16-17 and start of this season). Ekholm has missed 18 in the same timeframe. They both have their question marks. Ekholm - age, chychrun - durability.

Based on the Jeannot trade, I think 2x1st 2x2nd 2x3rd 2x4th 2x5th and Nolan and Cal Foote is fair.

Didn't they get McDonaugh for free a couple years ago, at a younger age and similar contract? I don't know if they will get the offer they are looking for.

Ekholm is a lot better than McDonagh, though. No offense to McDonagh, who has been "serviceable" for us.

I figured the ask was steep. For Oilers to circle back and call Montreal yesterday about Edmunston. For them to have interest in Edmunston knowing his back condition. Because Ekholm is by far the better player. I knew the ask was steep, or his caphit was a problem. Or a combo of both.

The issue is he is 33. Next season was when we saw Muzzin seriously decline. They might get a year or two of good play out of him but then that contract is a problem along with Nurse and Campbell and probably Hyman with McDrai needing new deals along with Skinner.

But I agree this makes them better but their goaltending is an issue and they still need 2 more top 4 D

Nah. I say he goes for a 1st, a 3rd, and a "meh" prospect which is still good value.

I feel EK will be good enough to maka them a legit threat in the West, where as the other 2 don't quite put them over that hump IMO.

Gavrikov will be a lot cheaper, so if they aren't going "all-n", I can swallow that cost a lot easier.

Chychrun does put more points on the board, but he's not actually as good a player. Ekholm on that team would put up similar points. But Edmonton needs defense more.

Broberg is supposedly a non-starter and for fair reason. He has progressed very nicely this season.
