He's developed something of a two way game since heading to Ottawa, he and Turris handle a decent chunk of their workload. And its as much keeping chemistry in place for 5 years as they work the kids in as anything.

Yeah he was very good for Ottawa last year. The money is fine, the term is a bit wacky if you ask me but McCarthur is definitely a $4.5M player

I don't see anything wrong with MacArthur's contract given his production and the market... seems like a really good deal for one of their top 6 wingers who also plays both special teams units... Good solid advanced metrics/possession numbers on a bad team...

It will take him until he is 35. I have a problem with term, not the dollars.

Report: Burmistrov interested in NHL return, just not in Winnipeg: http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/...nterested-in-nhl-return-just-not-in-winnipeg/

It’s been a year since Alexander Burmistrov bolted the Winnipeg Jets for the KHL but he may be looking to make a return to North America. He just may not want to do it in Winnipeg.

Slava Malamud of sportsexpress.ru appeared on TSN Radio in Winnipeg on Monday and said the 2010 first-round pick of the Atlanta Thrashers may be looking to come back.

“He said that he knows that the Jets were looking to trade him, and if that’s the case then he wouldn’t mind it as long as he comes back to the NHL,†Malamud said. “He’s being kind of diplomatic there, but the vibe I caught from that exchange when I read it in the original Russian was that he’s not too hot on the idea of coming back to Winnipeg, and he might want to try his luck somewhere else.â€

Makes sense for the Rangers. They've traded away 1st rounders like candy so adding a 1st round grade prospect is nice.

I wonder if he could fit on a line with Kreider and Stepan in the future

Rangers make it official. Free agent forward Kevin Hayes has agreed to terms

Rangers Agree to Terms With Forward Kevin Hayes: http://blueshirtsunited.com/posts/6524/rangers-agree-to-terms-with-forward-kevin-hayes

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the team has agreed to terms with free agent forward Kevin Hayes.

Hayes, 22, skated in 40 games with the Boston College Eagles of Hockey East (NCAA) this past season, registering 27 goals and 38 assists for 65 points, along with 16 penalty minutes and a plus-34 rating. Hayes was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as the top player in collegiate hockey, and he was named to the NCAA East First All-American Team and Hockey East’s First All-Star Team. He established collegiate career-highs in goals, assists, points, plus/minus rating, power play goals (six), and game-winning goals (six). Hayes ranked second in the nation in points, third in plus/minus rating, fourth in assists, and fifth in goals. He finished second on Boston College in goals, points, game-winning goals, and shots on goal (140), tied for second in power play goals, and ranked third in assists and plus/minus rating.

Where does Burmi fit on the Sabres roster during the 2014-15 season?

The Sabres could have these guys fighting for ice time at center in 14-15:

McEichel
Ennis
Reinhart
Grigorenko
Girgensons
Larsson
haha yeah i know, but thats for Nolan to decide. I'm just a fan of the player and it'd be one of those moves (prospects/picks) for a more developed younger player that many think we'll see in the coming year(s).

He gets it defensively, is strong away from the puck, plays larger than he is and still has some offensive potential I dont have a problem with his attitude, considering I followed the ATL->WPG transition pretty closely as a former ATL season tix holder, Noel & Co really screwed the pooch with him, and he wasnt the only one.

I expect the target to be player(s) at positions the Sabres have gaps in the pipeline like top 6 wingers and NHL ready goaltending.

Centers, especially bottom 6 centers, aren't what I would expect Murray to bring in for 2014-15.

sure, i don't disagree. but the jury is still out on where some of those guys listed will be playing. will Grigo make it? is he a future winger? same question could be asked of Ennis & Larsson and even Girgensons. Also wonder if we'll be looking at top 6/bottom 6 or top 9/energy 4th line.

No idea what Murrays thought process is going to be, just pointing out that adding a player like Burmi to the competition wouldnt be a terrible thing. what if he ended up being the best option at 3C behind McEichel/Reinhart?

The only way I see it making sense is if Girgensons is moved to the wing AND Larsson doesn't look like he can play a 3C role in the NHL this season.

Right now, the Sabres look to have two really good young 3Cs in those two.

Unless they really want to go four lines deep. Then it makes more sense.
