Went to the Lightning-Blues game. Tampa is an awesome environment for a game, first of all. It makes Pittsburgh look like an old folks home. Secondly, when you watch the puck movement the Lightning are able to achieve on the powerplay, you realize how completely inept we are on the powerplay. They are constantly getting the puck to guys in high percentage areas.

Turns out Todd could coach a PP with the best one timer/goal scorer of all time, guess that makes him a power play genius.

Oilers score the game winner on the PP with just over 2 minutes left in the game. Would be nice to be able to utilize the PP like it's actually a threat to make a difference in a game instead of knowing we're just killing 2 minutes off the clock when we get one.

The Pens powerplay issues have absolutely nothing to do with the coaching and everything to do with the players.

I uh, don’t believe you. Especially when good players are kept off for no reason and archaic strategies like 2 defensemen are the only adjustments made
Multiple coaches have come, similar systems have been implemented, and similar results followed. Sid, Geno, and Letang like playing together, and thats about 75% of the problem.

The power play always ran the best with a specialist. Kessel as the guy dictating things, or Hornqvist being the chaos in front and giving guys more time/space to do their bullshit highlight reel stuff, or Gonchar at the point playing PP QB, or Neal acting as the triggerman, etc.

It's when the team's got a buncha names that don't really do anything particularly well on the PP that it just kinda stagnates. You get a buncha guys planting roots and passing the puck back and forth looking for that perfect play, and none of the catalysts that make it happen.

Lol I mean, most definitely not. It's both, to put it simply.

To really dig down - they let the core do what they want and dictate who plays on the top powerplay. If you put Petry as the top ppqb and took Rust off the powerplay and rotated Zucker and Rakell instead with Sid, Geno, Guentzel, and Petry, we would see something else, like maybe teams wouldn't find them as predictable as a Tomlin Coached Steelers.

Letang on the second unit with Rust would actually be a benefit to them.

The powerplay always seems to click when Sid or Geno are out of the lineup and one of them can roam that entire right wall. Letang and Malkin playing catch at the top of the circle is the most predictable thing ever. There's never been movement and they have always been predictable. As I have said...player issue. A coach comes in a vows change, and it always reverts back to what those 3 want to do.
