In regard to Ian Cole, the tweet states that the victim learned from teammates that Cole had been abusing her and bragging about it, knowing she was under age. I'd like to think that any amount of team related loyalty would easily fall down the list of priorities compared to doing the right thing when it comes to sexual abuse of a minor. Any of those players that heard Cole bragging about that stuff (if it's true) should have alerted anyone necessary to handle it properly - team, local PD, etc.

Stories like these, and 23 years into a career filled with similar sewer level drama, is what makes me continuously question society.

In the Panderverse
It starts about a week later than normal.

i think it has to do with

(1) closely aligning nba and nhl finals. yhis years is on TBS/TNT which also does one of the nba semifinals. If it’s the only thing on you get more eyeballs.

the nba is already set with finals schedule. Game 7 is Father’s Day, going back…Thur game 6, Monday game 5, Fri game 4, wed game 3, sun game 2, wed-Fri game 1 which puts the start late May/ early June. Thr nhl will do it’s finals on open days. ABC has even year finals along with nba finals so they can’t directly conflict.

(2). They want some games post ncaa frozen 4 which might allow teams to sign college players from that. The players get to burn a contract year.
I agree broadcasting plays a role. Also, last season was an olympics year, albeit without NHL participation, and that typically stretches the schedule. Lastly, this season starts with two European games, one before the preseason ended. When I looked a couple weeks ago, the "start" of this NHL season actually stretches 8 days from the 7th to the 15th before all 32 teams play their first game.

Interesting to note:

Simon "Better than both Dahlin and Power" Edvinsson starting the year in Grand Rapids.
Who named him better than Dahlin and Power? Okay, they still compare him with Power they are from one draft, but Dahlin has been in the NHL for a long time and Edvinsson is not even close yet, we have not even seen what he can do at this level.

Really want the teams that are p***yfooting on announcing jersey ads to just f***ing cut the dangle and do it.

It's disgusting and it tarnishes the reason for which a team even exists, which is to represent your city, not a goddamned mortgage specialist commodities content im-ex brand consultancy profit leech, but if that's where the whole league is going, just f***ing play your cards and we can see where our loyalties stand.

So far I've only seen 5-7 teams actually do it. And that makes me wonder if this experiment is not going to take.

With everything going on in hockey I'm happy with how Bills handled Araiza.

I hope Sabres/Bills will go for a higher standard than other teams (Canadiens) and stay away from shitheads.

Absolutely. Or...at least show some legit remorse and become a better person.

Mallioux...its not that I'm specifically rooting for him but I am OK with individuals coming back from mistakes they made as teenagers if they show remorse and ask for forgiveness. I will have no issue if he pans out and has a nice career.

What Araiza is accused of doing is a whole lot worse than Mailoux. Not to excuse Mailoux's behavior as OK, but taking a picture during a consensual sexual encounter and then sharing it without the girl's permission is a very, very far moral cry away from rape.

I mean the teams logo is the biggest piece of advertising. I am fine with an ad on the jersey and helmet. I would like to stay away from multiple paid ads on the jerseys. The NHL should have done this a decade ago but they bumbled it like they do everything.

In addition to this - which should obvious to anyone... It was the punter of the team that punts less than any other.

Let's imagine it was the starting QB instead of the punter in the same situation - everyone here would be entitled to get on their high horse if the Bills acted in the same way.

But i honestly believe that Araiza was cut simply because the hassle / negative spotlight far outweighed any negligible big picture benefit gained by his presence.

The team logo is not advertising any more than your face is advertising for your person.

I want that jersey to succeed no matter who is wearing it, signed by what gm, playing in whatever arena, because for half a century it has symbolized buffalo's civic identity. You sell that, you might as well go play in Europe.

That comparison is not synonymous with each other. There are 32 teams, each with a unique design and they make an incredible amount of money off whether in TV or in merch. I get the idea of keeping it basic but the team logo is every bit a huge advertisement, the brand name on the stick and any other brand name that self advertises for exposure and money.

There's a difference between product and advertisement. Here, the product itself is the symbol. Nothing else related to the franchise has any particular connection to the people it represents. It's a special symbology that we're loyal to in itself, no matter who wears it. That's not an ad. That's the product.

The product is the actual items the logo is on. Like a pair of Nike shoes, the shoe is the product the "swoosh" is the advertisement.
