I feel like the Oilers bottom six is still not a bunch of guys capable of playing Dave Tippett Hockey.

Where is their Boyd Gordon? Their Lauri Korpisoski?

It looks like a bunch of guys with undefined roles.

Now, you take the 2010-12 Tippett Coyotes, the 2012 Mike Smith, and sub-in even half of McDrai ... well now you have something.

Calgary's arena deal is toast.

It's estimated both sides (city and team) poured $10 million or so each into the proposal phrase.

I am sure the BOH is crying wolf over the city funds that could have otherwise been spent on ambulances, park cleanup, and trash collection. Right?
I don't go to BOH but I can tell you the sentiment in the City of Calgary has a pretty big push to not do this deal. Lots of things needed in Calgary and many feel billionaire Owners should be paying for their own buildings.

Looks like Edmonton is starting their annual tank job. McTankvid leading the best he can, which is pretty poor. Lindros v2.

So in a few years the Saddledome will be at the point Rexall Place was when it got to "we *REALLY* need a new/massively renovated building for this team" land - if it isn't already. my one visit to Rexall Place was in the Oilers next to last season there, and my initial reaction was "wow, this place is worse than all 3 teams' arenas when I went to New York in 2007"...and those 3 teams all have new buildings now (I went back to MSG 4 years ago. *much* better).... that same trip I also went to the Saddledome, and my reaction was "well, not as bad as Edmonton...but it's getting there".

They had a fantastic deal to build in Calgary but got a little greedy while public whispers got louder.

After what the mayor said a week ago I took the city’s side.

The deal breaker AIUI was covering the overruns and the city was willing to cover roughly a 1/3 of it but the Flames balked at the rest which amounted to a little over $9 million. For a $650 million project the city was willing to chip in a sizable chip for.

Assinine.

Absolute greed when you consider almost all benefits going forward go to the Flames. The appetite for this type of investment by Govt is suspect at best and you balk at a lousy $9 million?? It's not exactly boom times in the oil industry.

From 32 Thoughts:

Oliver Ekman-Larsson is the only player to be on-ice for more than 500 minutes at 5v5 and fewer than 10 goals against (9).
I wonder if he had an epiphany...I'll never be Niklas Lidstrom but I can still be Niklas Hjalmarsson?

Watching Leafs vs Oilers. A rather boring game with little going on but oddly Perlini has stood out and has a goal and a couple other decent chances.

Poll on the Oilers board. Looks like Tippett has reached his shelf life in another city.

That's crazy. At least push to fix up the bottom 6, defense, and goaltending before shoving him out.

Went to Pappadeaux last night. Got a 2 pound live Maine. So good! The senile 40+ year politician that runs the country says our economy is great. Anybody been out to eat lately? I walked in thinking I'd go with the Alaskan King Crab as it's been a few years since I had that. No joke, it's $99.99 now (ticket to Alaska not included, I checked). Most of the fish plates were right around $50. Live Maine is $36 a pound. A few drinks and I was out of there for just under $300 for two. Yikes! Better than paying for tickets to watch our shitty team play and still not be able to get Macho Nachos though. Glass half full! Pic to make you drool. Claws were almost as big as my hand.

Tippett is on the last year of his deal too. What are the requirements for an extension? Win a round?

It's too bad for Tippett. I'd like to see him win (not in Edmonton). But he's 60 and it's been a decade since he has won a playoff series. This is likely it for him.
