anyone have a general idea of what JVR would take to sign with us? cap hit and term please.
Coming off a 6 year, 4.25 AAV contract. This past season he had 36 goals, 18 assists, 54 points in 81 games. He'll probably command at least 5 mil on the open market, probably more.

On another note, thoughts on inquiring about Jason Zucker? He's an RFA currently unsigned by the Wild. 26 years old, plays both wings. Probably will command a fair amount of money as he only made 2 mil last year but I would pay him if he's gonna be a regular 25-30 goal scorer.

I like it. Minnesota has a lot of good forwards that could help us.

That said, who do we offer now? Bennett and Kulak?

We don’t really have a surplus of talent anywhere on the team anymore.

I like it. However, we already blew our trade capital, and I cannot imagine BT giving up on Bennett yet. I fully expect the flames to be in on one big name UFA and likely a depth add. Something that is both scary and exciting at the same time. All I know is that we still have a hole in our top 6 and I cannot see Treliving sitting on his hands with this current forward roster.

I think he gets 6x6 at least if you look at history. Maybe more with the cap going up. No thank you.

6 years...yeah, I imagine we'll regret that contract sooner than later. I don't know, what does this team do? We should be priming ourselves for a deep playoff push at this point with a strong core intact and locked up, I cannot imagine we are ready to ship out anymore big names in a trade. FA has just started leaving a bad taste in my mouth with bad signings.

I doubt Treliving is going to make a big splash in free agency. The last we need is to tie ourselves to an albatross contract with Lindholm, Hanifin, Tkachuk, Bennett extenstions on the horizion

It's simple, take the chance. The best teams draft their top talent, re-sign their home grown talent to reasonable long-term deals, they make good trades and they take risks with UFAs that pan out; we've done pretty well on the first 3, we need to take that chance on the 4th.

JVR is just 29, has averaged 30+ goals per 82 games over the last 5 seasons and he plays a style of game that leaves his body less likely to break down as soon; I think you can prject him being good for at least 4-5 more years. Our window is likely over in 4-5 years and our biggest need IMO is another bonafide 30 goal scorer.
I think he is the kind of guy you take the risk on as he fits the need and window.

i'm thinking the opposite, Tre gave himself an opening with the cap after the last trade. He'll us it, and realizes his leash is short at this point. Not saying I agree with that notion, depends on his signings. Although, if he truly believes Bennett is ready for the top 6 this year, he may chase 1-2 depth signings for the bottom six instead.

Could be worth it if his play holds up. The risk is obvious, but I agree, one way or another, we need another top 6 player. the X factor is Bennett, maybe this coming season is finally his time to shine.

I’ve honestly changed my thoughts on JVR. If you can land him for under 7 and under 6 years; might be a good add.

The guy plays no minutes and scores a tonne. We could really stack this lineup badly.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Bennett - JVR
Jankowski - Backlund - Frolik

Gives lots of depth. Also 5 natural centres. If Benny shows he can’t cut centre with two major talents, you can bump Lindholm down, Janko up, Reunite the 3M.

Michael Grabner is a UFA we should target. Not if he's looking for a retirement contract or anything, but something like 2x3.5$M would be nice. He can score and he has wheels. Not a top line talent but a middle six speedster is always useful.

Of the bigger names maybe Perron would make sense. Neal and JVR are going to get paid and I hope it's not by us.

A trade would have been the best way to get a bonafide top line sniper but as mentioned we blew our trade chips already. Still our forward group should be better than last year.

Honestly, with our window, the difference between a 6 and 7 year contract won't hurt anything more than the team's wallet. I think you have t0 go 7 years to give him every possible reason to sign.

That's pretty much how I'd envision the top 9 if we signed JVR. That is a solid group of players and gives us great scoring depth.

This lineup looks really nice. I would be content with something like this. Looks really solid from top to bottom.
