Arizona trades Phil Kessel to Ottawa @ 50 % retained. (There’s only 1 million left to be paid after signing bonus in real cash)

Ottawa trades their (2) seconds they have in 2022 to Arizona

Arizona gets 2 more seconds in 2022 draft for a total of 7 seconds / 2 firsts and their very early third...... which would be 10 picks in the top 65 picks......

Ottawa gets a fast veteran with 1 year left on the cheap...... as Kessels bonus has already been paid out. He only has 1 mill remaining. (Cheap Melynik can get a name player he can sell to the fan base and artificially raise his Cap spending)

Ottawa can also retain what ever they can at the deadline (CBA)...... and trade him for a last 1 st

The 2 Nd second is for the salary paid upfront & 50% retention by Arizona.

Melynik said they were going to replace Dadonov when they sold him off to Vegas.

Ottawa should be able to retain @ the deadline to about 2 million cap..... and get a late 1 st from a contender......

Phil may waive as Arizona is going to lose a lot..... going for 1 st over all pick

Kessel is the exact opposite of the makeup of Ottawa. Fast, gritty, skilled team meets lazy, soft, skilled player? Nahh.

Want no part in this.

If ARI wants us to be the middle team to make him 75@retained throw us a 4th or something but otherwise no interest in trading for Kessel

Would be odd for Ottawa to trade futures for a 1 year pickup that would be gone after the season.

Would be even more odd to trade for him and then flip him at the deadline.

Why is Ottawa paying for retention on a guy with a 1M salary? They need to preserve some of that 30M in cap space they've got lying around?

Trade two seconds for a rental when they aren’t even a contender? No sense does this make.

I do not disagree with Ottawa needing more veterans who can produce on the ice and that are not simply guys who are older playing garbage minutes but Phil Kessel isn't what the team needs from a leadership perspective.

If Ottawa is going to go spend assets on a veteran presence who can contribute right now, it needs to be a guy who does not come with the work ethic issues that follows Phil around wherever he goes.

I'm not sure Kessel pushes Ottawa to the next level. It would be a waste to give up 2 2nd round picks here.

i would do one 2nd for kessel. While he doesnt fit what we are trying to build he is still a PP threat and Ottawa's PP was ass last year at 15.5%. Kessel got 30% of his points on the PP so if he can help the sens improve based off his production and opening things up on the PP then it will be worth it. Im definitely against the group here though haha.
