The captaincy is waiting for Matthews in 2024. It looks like they can sign Nylander and still be under the cap. This is also a joke. Sort of. Sorry I've been dealing with people here not knowing what's really going on with the franchise, but insist that they know more than I.

After Matthews' last showing in the playoffs, Arizona can have him. He won't have to worry about the post-season then.

So is this the end of the Kassassin, or does another team take the plunge at a reduced price?

Pathetic. Just adding more dead cap and less actual money to pay out.
how is dumping possibly the worst player in the NHL last year and freeing up spot for prospect pathetic. Kassian was untradeable at 3.2m he played 51 games 8min game had 2 pts and -18 awful. Nemeth was useful but at his cap hit untradeable too, and let him go to wherever make 800k and be 6/7 D and let yotes bring up prospect see what they can do.

Leafs should get kassian on a 1 year deal. Sit him all year and unleash him on tkachuk in the playoffs.
problem is he cant skate and wont be able to catch him
BTW he had 2 fights this year got blasted in both

I find it hilarious that people are dumping on AZ for buying out Kassian and not the team that gave him that horrific contract in the first place. Thanks for the picks lol.

Yeah, Kassian's brains are pretty scrambled now. Would be great entertainment though to see him go nuts on Tkachuk one more time though :) Kassain in a contract year is also a very different player that non-contract year Kassian. Maybe he has a little burst of energy left in him.

That was a Holland/oilers special. Org got boners after he jumped Tkachuk and couldn't sign him to an extension fast enough. Then Kassian just stopped playing ... for 3 years straight. Also just rolled over in his "rematch" with Tkachuk.

Some guys, you just can't give more than a 1 year deal.

Nemeth might get another look, but surely Kassian is done. The eye test, the numbers ... just none of it was very good last year.

The trade at the 2022 draft was:
ARZ gets: Kassian, 2022 29 OA, 2024 3rd rounder, 2025 2nd rounder
EDM gets: 2022 32 OA

Move up 3 slots, add a 2nd, add a 3rd and get an overpaid vet for the roster ... all for free. Good business by ARZ.

All the best to Kassian, 700 GP in the National League, very good career, but this is the end of the road for him.

Is Kassian just cooked? He was always miscast as a top 6 winger, but I'd take him, at least the version of him from Edmonton a couple years ago, on a 3rd or 4th line.
