After that point, we had nothing elite.

Not accurate at all, look at the season ends totals.

Top 6 power play =elite level

14/8-- OT/shootout,, 3rd best record in the NHL=elite level

Berny 5th best sv % among all starters with 55 or more games played. Ranked 16th for total games played by a tender.=elite level

He will be 30 years old and start his 13 th NHL game, I feel so much more at ease now.

They've made sideways moves.

The players they've brought in are hardly upgrades over the players they lost (in the case of Gunnarsson - Polak, they've actually let the better player go IMO).

Those that are looking at this roster, and are saying "definitely better", are saying purely out of hope rather than reasonable optimism.

Fair enough, but those 12 games won't change my point...his lack of NHL experience at his age is what is causing people to slot him lower in the lineup.
