Panthers sleepwalked through two periods, spotted em 5-1, then almost came back before Matthews iced it. Sammy was terrific tonight, so were the posts.

Leafs shouldn’t feel great about this win, Panthers should have a closed door wtf is with the sleepwalking lately meeting.

As a fan..have to say no. Their chances will improve once JTs 11m contract is off the books and spread throughout the lineup.

We put up 6 on you missing literally half our D and 2 top 6 forwards.

No Marner, no Rielly, no Edmonson, no Jarncroc, no Liligjren, Matthews was a Game time decision lol.

You made it a game in the 3rd after we took the foot off the gas.. congrats

It’s really not a great thermometer I wouldn’t put much stock in whooping us. We have been liquid hot ass since the deadline.

I think the Leafs are in a interesting place this year. I don't know what the media is painting over there in Toronto, but they're not one of the top dogs expected to win the cup. Virtually any team they will face either has more expectations after loading up at the deadline, or history with the Leafs in the playoffs.

It should make for a very spirited post-season by the Leafs. and as the 3rd highest scoring team in the League, they can definitely hurt you. They've shed the demons of winning a round too.

Either they just flat out lose to a better team, or this is finally the year where guys are stepping up and mentally they get on a roll. I don't think that defense core is going to win the cup, but like last years Panthers reminded us, enough things go your way and anything is possible.

Or, Leafs put the boots to them for two periods, took their foot off the gas because they're not sadists, then got bored with the "comeback" and iced it.

Keefe played Reaves on the PK and a lot down the stretch. lol sleepwalk and wake up. Oooooookay.

Leafs sleepwalked through the third when they realized the Panthers weren't worth 60 minutes of effort.

Panthers should feel great about almost not losing.

So is this game indicative of what’s to come in the playoffs. (3rd period issues) or not (near perfect trouncing until they let off the gas)

I can’t tell. The narratives were written before the game even started, but still seem blurred. Tell us wise ones. Tell us.

Are we gonna have this thread on every other playoff team too or just the leafs due to higher Interaction?

If they are in the playoffs they are contenders. If I had to bet between winning the cup or bouncing in the first round, I'd take the first round exit.

Win four rounds with those goalies and that D?
Nah.

But you know this thread is put up every season ......
context - Matthews and the leafs have still only won one more round than the Red Wings.

Funny things is, there is a mathematical possibility for Maple Leafs still missing the play-offs,
although, they only need 1 point from remaining 7 games to clinch.

The only scenario what leads to Leafs missing out
(and its an insane wild one and probability for that is like less than 5%)

1. Leafs lose every remaining game without scoring a point (95 points)
2. Red Wings win all 6 remaining games (96 points)
3. Islanders win all 6 remaining games, in regulation, or OT (95 points)
- both then will have 31 RW, however, Islanders then will have 1 more ROW
and we all know ROW is the #2 tie breaker
4. Flyers win all 6 remaining games, at least 4 in regulation (95 points)
- Flyers 32 RW vs Leafs 31 RW
5. Tampa gets at least 3 points from 6 remaining games (96 points)

=

Lightning finish 3rd in their division
Flyers finish 3rd in their division
Red Wings gets #1 wild card spot
Islanders gets #2 wild card spot

Leafs miss out

This statement is technically correct but very wrong at the same time. Yes-there is a less than 5% chance of this scenario. However, the odds are closer to 0.0001% than 5%.
