I'm curious about where the Red Wings (and to some extent, the Tigers) stand with their regional broadcast partners.
In 2008 - the Red Wings (Tigers and Pistons)signed a 10-year-deal with Fox Sports Detroit.
It was said to be worth $1 billion.
The Red Wings deal was a 10-year deal beyond 12-13 - so 2022-23 perhaps?
Forbes estimated the value at $30M a year.
In 2018 it was reported the Ilitch family (owners of the Wings/Tigers) considered their own regional sports network. Such a deal would make Fox Sports Detroit pretty much worthless.
In 2017, the Red Wings rankings were 2.16.
Imagine how low it was this year, as the team sank to record low performance.
In 2009, some local playoff broadcasts drew local ratings of 17.5.
The overall average rating was 4.06 in 2009-10.
So viewership was halved between 2010 and 2016.
Anyone have RSN viewership info from 19-20?
Can the Red Wings expect more than $30M a year in their next deal?
