I'm curious about where the Red Wings (and to some extent, the Tigers) stand with their regional broadcast partners.
In 2008 - the Red Wings (Tigers and Pistons)signed a 10-year-deal with Fox Sports Detroit.
It was said to be worth $1 billion.
The Red Wings deal was a 10-year deal beyond 12-13 - so 2022-23 perhaps?

Forbes estimated the value at $30M a year.

In 2018 it was reported the Ilitch family (owners of the Wings/Tigers) considered their own regional sports network. Such a deal would make Fox Sports Detroit pretty much worthless.

In 2017, the Red Wings rankings were 2.16.
Imagine how low it was this year, as the team sank to record low performance.

In 2009, some local playoff broadcasts drew local ratings of 17.5.
The overall average rating was 4.06 in 2009-10.

So viewership was halved between 2010 and 2016.

Anyone have RSN viewership info from 19-20?

Can the Red Wings expect more than $30M a year in their next deal?

Sinclair was supposed to rebrand the FOX RSN's at the start of the 2020 MLB season.........but

Sinclair COULD play hardball with cable/satellite providers in the following NHL markets because they also own an OTA broadcast stations in

Columbus
Raleigh
St. Louis
Minneapolis

and also own stations in adjacent markets such as Flint, Grand Rapids, West Palm Beach and others.

Here in Boston the Boston Globe has reported that Xfinity is refunding the 'regional sports fee' BUT you have to call them.
