Vegas is not my kinda town. But I'm not a degenerate cretin.
LOOOOOVE Vegas!

I've never been there, but that's my opinion as well.
I had the opportunity to see the Mobile One arena last February. My wife and I were there for a quick getaway. They opened the arena for 1 day only for the general public to get on the "ice" and take a good look around. It was pure luck that we were there on that day. I happened to have a Penguins T-shirt that I wore, and I was amazed how many former PA and Buffalo NY fans had moved there and were buying season tickets. We spoke with quite a few of them. Many have retired there, or moved there for work. It is a fairly typical new arena with a slight Vegas twist. Out front in the plaza there is a sculpture of a naked show girl which will light up. Only in Vegas.
Vegas is great. You don't even have to gamble. There's something for everyone... if you want to be a dirty cretin you can, if you want to eat and go to classy restaurants you can, etc. You can spend two days just walking the strip and seeing everything.
Vegas is already the greatest place on the planet with nothing else a close second. Being able to watch a Pens game while I am there is more than a dream come true.
I don't deserve this much happiness in life.

Going to safely assume you've never been to Thailand.
Girl and I are contemplating Boston, opening night, or Vegas this year.
I'm not sure how you can hate Vegas. I've been all over the world and there are countless places I'd rather go than there. But it has world class entertainment and some of the best restaurants in the world. The amenities at these hotels are great.
If you are on a tight budget then maybe it would be terrible I guess. If I had to stay in a seedy hotel off of the strip then maybe it wouldn't be fun. t's a fun place to go for 2-3 nights. I hate the heat as well but you just need to time your trip appropriately. I hope those knocking it have actually been there. Even if you don't like gambling there is plenty of others things to do.

I never thought I'd like Vegas. I don't gamble and I'm not really into all those Vegas shows. Plus I am in my mid 30s so partying ain't like it used to be.
Two years ago I surprised my wife with a long weekend trip there. Went in late November so the weather was really nice. To my surprise I really loved it. It helps that I love the weather and scenery in that part of the country. Ate tons of great food. Had a blast just walking around and taking it in. Rented a car one day and drove to Red Rock Canyon and did other sightseeing. My perception of Vegas was way off and another lesson not to judge until you have the experience. As far as prices go, I think I've become so accustomed to high prices living in the NYC Metro area for nearly a decade that prices anywhere else never make me blink anymore.
Last week I booked my trip to see the Pens there in December - we decided that would be our Christmas gift to each other. Nice having a trip like that to look forward to in December.
Maybe we should plan a HF get together before the game?
I was in Vegas about 15 years ago for a weekend. Once every 20 years is plenty.* In 5 years maybe I'll go back for a Pens game and the delicious breakfast buffets.
*Unless you're big into cocaine and hookers, and gang-bangs with strangers. Then it's the bomb.
I'd much rather hit the Rockies, Mount Rushmore or Yellowstone.
See, here is where the "to each his own" comes into play. I would rather slam my junk in a car door than go camping.
That doesn't mean I should stereotype you because you do.
How is he stereotyping? Because he shared his personal experience? How is 'If that's your thing' different from 'To each his own'?
I believe you read my comment as adversarial when it was not intended that way. We were in agreement, actually.
