 I've never been there, but that's my opinion as well.

Vegas is great. You don't even have to gamble. There's something for everyone... if you want to be a dirty cretin you can, if you want to eat and go to classy restaurants you can, etc. You can spend two days just walking the strip and seeing everything.

I had the opportunity to see the Mobile One arena last February. My wife and I were there for a quick getaway. They opened the arena for 1 day only for the general public to get on the "ice" and take a good look around. It was pure luck that we were there on that day. I happened to have a Penguins T-shirt that I wore, and I was amazed how many former PA and Buffalo NY fans had moved there and were buying season tickets. We spoke with quite a few of them. Many have retired there, or moved there for work. It is a fairly typical new arena with a slight Vegas twist. Out front in the plaza there is a sculpture of a naked show girl which will light up. Only in Vegas.

T-Mobile Arena and that isn't a naked show girl. Jesus.

I imagine we'll go at some point. been to Vegas once before for a hockey tournament and liked it ok. I love all the lights but I'm just not much of a gambler. table games are definitely not my thing but I did play the slots. I was lucky to find a penny slots machine that was paying out and won $400 over the course of 2 days. :yo:

next time we go we'll probably stick to restaurants (always wanted to go to Rao's and since it's impossible to go to the one in NYC....), maybe catch a show or two and then head out of town to see Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon.

If I ever went to Vegas, I'd rather go catch a live boxing match there instead of watching the Pens (presumably) slaughter a team that IMO will probably be relocated in like 10 years.

Vegas is already the greatest place on the planet with nothing else a close second. Being able to watch a Pens game while I am there is more than a dream come true.

I don't deserve this much happiness in life.

Going to safely assume you've never been to Thailand.

Girl and I are contemplating Boston, opening night, or Vegas this year.

Totally fair and I'm not opposed to going by any means. It just doesn't rank high on my list of cities to visit.

I never thought I'd like Vegas. I don't gamble and I'm not really into all those Vegas shows. Plus I am in my mid 30s so partying ain't like it used to be.

Two years ago I surprised my wife with a long weekend trip there. Went in late November so the weather was really nice. To my surprise I really loved it. It helps that I love the weather and scenery in that part of the country. Ate tons of great food. Had a blast just walking around and taking it in. Rented a car one day and drove to Red Rock Canyon and did other sightseeing. My perception of Vegas was way off and another lesson not to judge until you have the experience. As far as prices go, I think I've become so accustomed to high prices living in the NYC Metro area for nearly a decade that prices anywhere else never make me blink anymore.

Last week I booked my trip to see the Pens there in December - we decided that would be our Christmas gift to each other. Nice having a trip like that to look forward to in December.

Maybe we should plan a HF get together before the game?

I'm not sure how you can hate Vegas. I've been all over the world and there are countless places I'd rather go than there. But it has world class entertainment and some of the best restaurants in the world. The amenities at these hotels are great.

If you are on a tight budget then maybe it would be terrible I guess. If I had to stay in a seedy hotel off of the strip then maybe it wouldn't be fun. t's a fun place to go for 2-3 nights. I hate the heat as well but you just need to time your trip appropriately. I hope those knocking it have actually been there. Even if you don't like gambling there is plenty of others things to do.

As far as budget, it's actually pretty amazing how inexpensively you can fly round trip to Vegas and spend 3 or 4 night in a decent hotel. I booked the trip for 3 nights at MGM, 2 nonstop flights - $750. I don't think I could fly from NJ to Pittsburgh and stay in Monroeville for that price.

Admittedly I have not been to Thailand but have been a few other places. Cancun would be second on my list, but all in all, given my choice, I'd go to Vegas every time.

To each their own, but Vegas has everything I love. I do like to gamble, people watch, eat at nice places and drink 24/7 including while walking the strip. The hot weather does not bother me one bit. The chance to see the Pens play there is just more than a guy like me could have asked for.

Vegas is certainly not for everyone, but it sure as **** is for me. Love the place.

There ya go. Way to get off the strip and explore. If you go the opposite direction and head north, there's Mt. Charleston that offers a cooler climate during the summer and skiing and snowboarding during the winter.
Compared to other major cities, Las Vegas has some strides to make regarding a cultural experience outside of the casino/gambling aspect, but it's happening.
I'm going to the December game and I'm totally down for meeting any youse before the game!

Most of my best friends and I are varying levels of degenerate gamblers, so we get there every year at some point. We have a larger group that aren't as big gamblers so that one doesn't make it down as much, but the half dozen or so of us always go every year regardless.

New Orleans is also a really fun town to go to for a few days, but it's one I've only done with a larger group a couple of times and not as an annual trip (mostly just because the non-stop gambling isn't quite as easy), but those trips were crazier overall than the Vegas ones.

I was in Vegas about 15 years ago for a weekend. Once every 20 years is plenty.* In 5 years maybe I'll go back for a Pens game and the delicious breakfast buffets.

*Unless you're big into cocaine and hookers, and gang-bangs with strangers. Then it's the bomb.

If that is really your view of Vegas you are sorely mislead by Hollywood.

Vegas may not be for everyone, but to generalize it in the manner you did is simply not accurate. I love Vegas and have never done cocaine, been with a hooker or involved in a gang bang (with or without strangers). Not once have I taken part in those things you mentioned and I love to go to Vegas as often as my schedule and finances allow.

It may not be for you, but that doesn't mean those of us who enjoy it are drug fiends, unfaithful to our spouse or simply total degenerates.

Just picked up 2 tickets from AXS for face value. Tickets on the second hand market for the Penguins game are pretty much out of control right now.

And yes, sadly many American's have already made their opinions of different places based on what they've seen on TV or the internet and most of it is false.

Grand Canyon and Las Vegas?

I guess it's ok to drive through.

I turned it down to go there because I despise what it represents.

My Dad was a bad gambler. If it's your thing, what'ev, more power to ya, but I think the place is a waste of time and money.

I'd much rather hit the Rockies, Mount Rushmore or Yellowstone.

The Rockies, in particular, Estes Park was fabulous. Was at 12,150 elevation in July. No matter where you are there is a view.

I highly recommend it.

See, here is where the "to each his own" comes into play. I would rather slam my junk in a car door than go camping.

That doesn't mean I should stereotype you because you do.

How is he stereotyping? Because he shared his personal experience? How is 'If that's your thing' different from 'To each his own'?

I believe you read my comment as adversarial when it was not intended that way. We were in agreement, actually.
