Derek Grant, also a UFA, took his 4th line center job in Anaheim last season. Vermette is pretty much done, outside of being a faceoff specialist.

Not effective on the PK? Or is he ok there?

He’s effective in that he can win the draw but he’s not great at much else. Doesn’t have the speed to forecheck anymore. He’s a smart player though. Last season we’d use him to win the faceoff on PK and then get him off the ice.

I'd be ok with that on the Island.

Let’s put it this way: Randy Carlyle who’s obsessed with over the hill guys like Chimera, Chris Kelly, etc. finally realized he wasn’t worth putting in the lineup.

He’s fine on 4th line but 25 games into season you’ll be bitching (like we did) of him playing over someone better. He’s fine as a depth forward though. Ideally he’s only playing every 3 games or so though. He really wore as the season went on. I hope he does well though. I’ve heard he’s absolutely awesome with fans.

As others have said, he just doesn't provide anything outside of faceoffs. Below average skater at this point, very little puck retention ability at all, and doesn't bring any grit/energy or even a high compete level.

He's still smart enough to play in the league but really isn't going to bring any value. I'd hope the Ducks are moving on to younger options.
